So, I was just wondering if any one wanted to help me with a problem I was having with my Wireless Router. I can't access the router website or use it from a laptop, can someone help me?

Put it in a bowl of water.

I don't know much about these things, but I'm guessing that even the computer experts are going to have trouble helping you with that little information.

Don't have a wireless router, I have a wiremore router. Try restarting the router again. Or opening your wireless connection. Or throwing the router across the room, then buy a new one. That works ~65% of the time. :D

Have you got your IP set to automatic?

Eh. I tried putting it in a bowl in water, no dice though.

Linksys WRT54GS, I don't know how to set the IP to automatic, but that may do the trick.

Thanks

edits: Elaboration: I attempted to do a firmware upgrade on the router. But now, the router doesn't get picked up. No laptops or anything. The router website, 192.168.1.1, doesn't come up. Right now, I disconnected the router, and started using the modem, which worked. I really appreciate all that help though.

if the router's ip isn't working, maybe something went wrong with the firmware update. on some components there's a factory reset switch... that might reset it and get it working again. but you'd lose all your settings (ie broadband, wifi keys, etc). so wait to hear other people's ideas before trying that as a last resort! (if it has a reset anyway)

do you have any other hardware that might be conflicting with the router's ip (website address)?

Actually, I have a WRT54GL running the DD-WRT firmware and I remembered their wiki had instructions about how to recover from a bad flash.

Your most likely right, which means I'll probably have to call our Friends in India.

That's a treat that can't be understated enough....

Don't forget that you can access the wireless router web pages with a hard-wired connection, too. Once the router/access point part is working again, you can work out the wireless issues.

Before I call Bangalore, I'd cycle power, read Fass' link, and use the factory reset. all while trying to connect via ethernet to the router web page. I think with Linksys, the default IP address for administration is 192.168.0.1, but don't take that as gospel. RTFM!

Ah, I will. I will check out the site, thank you so much. I just hope it isn't dead. :(

It may have bricked.

Linksys WRT routers are notorious for such larks; but don't give up yet!

I got wireless, but I only use it for the Wii. My PC is plugged in by cable. Much easier.

Do you mean access the router using a wireless connection? Just to check, can you access the internet over the wireless connection.

It's just I seem to remember that a common default security setting on routers is not to allow any changes to its settings via wireless access. ie. it blocks all access to its website except those coming in via the ethernet ports on the back.

I have not seen one yet that has done that (at least home grade ones)... block external access absolutely but most treat anything past the NAT boundary as on the network and the same
