The ESRB
Conserative Morality

....Sucks! The ESRB, for those of you living under the figurative gaming rock for the past fourteen years, is the "rater" of video games. Now, as for me, I believe that the ESRB has made HUGE rating mistakes in it's time, and needs some help. A good example would be Halo, and Destroy all humans, overrated and underrated respectively. One, you shoot at aliens and a little bit of purple food coloring comes out. The other, you use an anal probe on someone, and watch as they run around until they finally fall and their heads pop off. The ESRB gave the former a "M" rating, and the latter a "T".
Now, how many gamers out there agree with me that the ESRB makes huge mistakes on a regular basis?

I find that the same people who want warnings and ratings on games tend to be the same ones who ignore the existing ones, buy their snivelling little brat the flavour of the month then bitch about how the game isn't properly rated. :soap:
I hate the ESRB for that. That and the ratings are so damn arbitrary!

Sucks to be underage.
:( Thanks for reminding me. *Cries for the rerating of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion*
Ratings are only there for people to ignore.

I honestly had no idea myself....
Huh. I just looked at my copy of CoD 4 that just came in the mail today and it's rated "M", whatever that means.

I bet that means "maliciously kick-ass".

I found a 12+ on Warcraft 3(the closest game to hand) from some group called PEGI. I refuse to take advice from a group with a girl's name.

Ironically, it means 'M' for mature...
Now get onto XBox Live and tell me these people sound mature... :$

Or perhaps "monstrously awesome"

Not unlike the MPAA, I might add.

That's your problem. I have the PC version and my only intentions regarding multiplayer is to play at various LAN parties. Playing the PC version online is bad enough, but XBOX Live is the natural habitat of the drunken frat kid.

I wouldn't say ESRB makes mistakes on a regular basis, but they do, and some of them are pretty massive. It's really been games that have gotten "M" ratings that deserve "T" ratings that get on my nerves, being underage and my local EB cashier isn't stupid or lax about that kind of thing...

Maniacally satisfying.
Games have ratings on them?
yep, but it's more of a suggestion. after all, they can't enforce it.
remember the hew and cry over Rockstar games GTA sex mini-game?
how many parents bought that game for their kids without looking at the ESRB rating?

Isn't purchasing online one way to circumvent those who would arbitrarily enforce arbitrary ratings?
Ratings you say....
Also I'm a cashier and I have a tip for the younger generation. If purchasing a game or DVD with a rating on it go to the younger cashiers. If I think someone looks 18 but know they are 17 I sneak it through for them anyway. I don't agree with a lot of the ratings.

Me and everyone I know don't give a fuck about ratings, we play what we want, when we want!
