Guilty Television Pleasures

You know you have them. The ones you don't tell your friends about for fear of being drawn and quartered.

I can't help loving Gossip Girl. I love it. The bitchiness, the fashion, the impossible good looks.

Amazing Race of course, though that's easily justifiable. Less so was "Beauty and the Geek" a while ago. And the "Funniest Home Videos".

Is there a good television show that ISN'T a guilty pleasure? :) I never have apologize for my music choices, but I seem to do nothing but squirm and explain the tv shows I watch.

At the moment, I'm hooked on Stargate Atlantis, which sucks shit. I mean, it's got the stupidest writing of any scifi show I've seen in I don't know how long. But the life-sucking, space-vampire aliens look cool, and I tune in to stare at them and wish they had better scripts to speak. And if the episode doesn't feature them, I tune out again. And I refuse to apologize for that. This time. To the likes of y'all.

I admit to liking "Desperate Housewives" more than I pretend to. It really is kinda addictive.

Ditto for "Grey's Anatomy," a.k.a. "Impossibly Pretty Doctors Cure Impossibly Rare Illnesses and then Have Lots of Impossibly Ubiquitous Sex." :p

Oh, please, Poli, that's hardly something to feel guilty about. Let's see aside from Stargate Atlantis, I've spent years paying for cable so I could watch:

Make Me A Supermodel
every season of Project Runway
What Not To Wear
Top Chef

Just about everything on Adult Swim

Japanese lunacy such as:
Iron Chef (the Japanese original - "Fukui-san!")
MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge
Sailor Moon
Inuyasha

Bacony Canadian crap such as:
Blood Ties
Forever Knight
Lexx

And I even have a short list of SciFi channel original movies that I actually like and have voluntarily watched more than once.

What he said. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a rock to hide under after admitting that. And Stargate SG-1.

Japanese Iron Chef is so not a guilty pleasure. It is the greatest thing ever. I cannot watch the host bite into that pepper in the opening sequence without laughing my ass off.

... And Stargate SG-1.

SG-1 is fine. Now, Stargate Atlantis is just pubescent.

That said, I must confess I am a fan of Reaper, Corner Gas, and Avatar: the last air bender... I do wonder if my name is on a list somewhere.

SG-1 started going downhill when Jack left. And what the hell was with that series finally? Sucked balls.

And Avatar is pretty awesome. Nothing wrong with watching that.

I secretly love gilmore girls.

Oh I love that show too! Mainly because it's so sweet and saccharin that it makes my teeth hurt. It's like Seventh Heaven without the proselytising.

I was deprived as a child. My mum wouldn't let me watch all the skanky teen dramas so now I'm an adult, they're pretty much all I watch.

Anime (have to hide that i like it-parents think i'm a sadcase)

That depends. Which animes do you like?
If the list includes Death Note, Bleach, or currently DBZ, yes you are. But if you used to like DBZ when you were younger and more ignorant, it's forgivable.

My friends would be ashamed of me if I didn't watch TV. So I don't. I tell them about it, and I don't care, just like I don't care if this small, prissy girl that hates me asks if I have an iPod, I say no, and she says i'm crazy, and I don't care if my entire class is discussing the fucking LOSERS on American Idol that call themselves able to sing. GOD!

hmm... no guilt in my television viewing.

tho some might consider Phineas and Ferb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_and_Ferb) a guilty pleasure.

It’s a 104 days of Summer Vacation,
And school comes along just to end it.
So the annual problem for our generation,
Is finding a good way to spend it.

Like maybe …
Building a rocket,
or fighting a mummy,
or climbing up the Eiffel Tower.

Discovering something that doesn’t exist,
or giving a monkey a shower.
Surfing tidal waves,
Creating nanobots,
Or locating Frankenstein’s brain. (Phineas – “It’s over here!”)

Finding a dodo bird,
Painting a continent,
Or driving our sister insane. (Candace – “Phineas!”)

As you can see,
There’s a whole lot of stuff to do before school starts this Fall. (Phineas - “Come on Perry!”)

So stick with us,
Cause Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all!

So stick with us,
Cause Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all!

Candace – “Mom! Phineas and Ferb are making a title sequence!”

I was laughing my ass off during last week's episode.

Were you homeschooled?

The OP asks if you have any guilty television pleasures, and you answer, essentially, that you have neither television pleasures nor guilt about not having them, but somehow this connects to how annoyed you are with your classmates' opinions about which you supposedly don't care, despite the fact that you care enough to use large bolded red type.

So are you making quantum leaps out of the OP topic into self-contradictory apoplexy unintentionally, or deliberately and for humorous purposes?

Put another way: Why are you acting like Basil Fawlty?

Put another way: ¿Que?

If TRI watched tv, he'd have cultural literacy, and TFA wouldn't have had to use all those words, because TRI would have gotten the reference. This is why people who don't watch tv are a pain. ;)

I don't have a television. Haven't had one for almost twenty years.

So, whenever I visit friends I can't peel my eyes away from whatever is on, even kids' shows. And I feel guilty about it.
