Get older - losing your invincibility

All people on this forum are getting older, at various different stages. I have found that, as I have gotten older, my body is more apt to break than it was when I was younger, and that I simply can't do what I used to be able to do and still be ready to go the next day.

How about you, NSG, is age catching up with you?

Poll coming, though I haven't decided how I'm going to phrase it yet. It might be a few minutes.

Nope. I am a fast runner. That's why drivers don't notice me so they usually hit me.

I'm having to run around after a bunch of kids atm, I'm only 18 (20 next year which is rather scary) and yet even I still just wish someone would come along and finish me off at the end of the day :(

how do you adults do it? regular beatings?

edit: sexual innuendo FTW!

I certainly don't miss being a teenager, but I must admit do kinda miss being able to function on two hours of sleep per night and eat whatever I wanted without gaining an ounce.

Nope. I'm 17, fit, and full of piss and vinegar. And hormones. Oh, god, am I full of hormones.

:D

The downside being, of course, that I am prone to do some incredibley stupid things...

You lose invincibility a set time after you pick up the star. It doesn't depend on age.

My teenage years were awkward. Looking around on this forum, I see I'm not the only one suffering from that, but at the very least I've shed off the fur from youth. Quite literally, actually... I'm bald. But I'm bald in a good way, so no complaints here.

I've always had to go an extra mile just to maintain minimum health and keep up with my chain smoking, chain drinking, eat whatever they want friends who never tried to stay in shape, but yeah as I get older it becomes an extra two miles and further.

Well now I have sound effects as I move. Getting up and sitting down come with grunts and groans

...number 3, just balder. Sigh.

I'm still young(21), so not really any problems with me. Considering I work in a physically demanding job.

Remember to turn on the Flux Capacitor before you accelerate to 88mph.

When I was 18, I could operate on 2 hours of sleep per night, eat anything I wanted, and keep right on going, regardless of the day's activities.

It's been downhill since then. Regular beatings help, but I haven't gotten one in a while :(

Actually, I just turned 25 this year, and even though I am indeed getting older, I've never felt better. I took up some good health and lifestyle habits these past years, with the result being that I've never been so strong, fit and quick. Both physically and intellectually.

I'm a bit worried about aging, true, but I don't think I really have to worry about going downhill for at least another decade as long as I keep up taking care of my body and spirit. And even then, you're not truly old as long as you keep being mischevious. *evil grin*

*looks at this weeks singles chart* no this has to be the 90's

thats odd because if I so much as smell one of those vegetarian patties at subway I will be farting for weeks...I'd like to see what effect this will have on your body :)

Age is a terrible thing in the sense that after you've reached your prime you can expect yourself to go downhill from there...

Not age, but rather forklifts. Forklifts are the root of all that plagues mankind. Or is that just my personal experience speaking?

I was hit by lightning once as a kid - well, knocked pretty hard by it at least, if not directly hit. No illusions of invincibility exist once you've experienced that. Hah.

This too. Forklifts (and badly aging whitewood pallets) are a menace.

I'm actually feeling better that I did a couple years ago. Mid-twentie's are awesome, I can do more when working out and even run faster. Go figure.

I's be 30. I've developed intermittent allergies. I can't drink like I used to, or do massive quantities of drugs. I wouldn't want to get into many fist fights anymore.

On the plus side, I have better sex, I'm not crushed by self-doubt, I know what I want out of life, and I'm actually pretty cool with myself.

So woohoo for ageing, in my books.

You gain some; you lose some. I'm coming back after a couple of years of physically punishing myself with poor eating and no exercise, so I'm only at about 85-90% of my endurance and strength I had when I was 20 (granted, I was an Adonis at 20; think something along the lines of a shorter Brad Pitt circa Fight Club), and I'm a bit sore fairly often, and I think until I get back up to full power I'm going to have keep easing back on the carbs. Not quite as disciplined as I was then. But I can go on less sleep than I did then, and I'm smarter, wiser, and saner than I was five years ago. Fair trade, I think.

I'm still in good shape for a guy my age. But several of my body parts take great joy of reminding me that I AM my age. *sigh* I miss being young!

That about sums up aging in my books.

I personally can't torture my body as much as I use to. To be honest I am lucky to be alive all the crap I have been through. I still keep up with all of my kids. I still am extremely active. I workout a lot and still climb and hike on a regular basis.

That will slow down over a couple more decades. I find the best way to feel good is working out on a regular basis. I highly suggest everyone do it.

As one of the over 30's, I'm really paying for all the crap I did to my body the previous decade. And at a very high interest rate.
