Yes folks, the TIN man finally has his own internet connection! I'm proud to be amongst you once more... and I open with a friendly debate. :D

Green taxes-Is there any point to them? I'm not debating wether Global warming is real or not, what I want to know is, Do you think this is all just an attempt to fleece us of our cash under false pretence once more?

It's actually a good question, because I could lean either way. I can really see both sides of an argument here. Both I suppose the best answer to give is that the government will tax you for anything it wants to at anytime it wants, under different various names. It all goes back to someone in Washington(London, Paris, Berlin, etc...) that wants your money, so they will get it. It is the only thing besides death that is certain in life.

Aye, they can.

Also, as my good friend Zilly has aptly demonstrated, very few people will know of you. Also note that NSG has changed quite a bit since the freewheeling days of yore.

who is this outsider!?

green taxes make polluting things more expensive and hopefully discourage people from using them (then again a few pence never stopped me from going to Barbados but whatever) which I guess you could of guessed already but I don't know what with you being so insignificant :p

The money that is being stolen off me by that thieving gypsy MR Taxman is going into the current governments energy plan thingy so I guess thats that

I much prefer unstable climate activity which reflects the obvious problems caused by destabilizing natural cycles

Fortunatly, none. I live in an area that has yet to impose any of these taxes. (My local council is quite corrupt). But it's a debate about green taxes in general, not my earnings. :D

Well if you contend that it's all about "fleecing us" out of our cash, the amount of "fleecing" involved would seem to be relevant, no?

My point is that it's almost guaranteed you're fleeced FAR more by something else, like paying for the world's most expensive and least checked military machine. This is something that bothers me when people complain that NASA also is too expensive. People ignore the elephant in the living room.

Ok, so not NASA. Healthcare then? Well, I'm not saying you complain about NASA, just that there is a tendency to complain about cost when the real issue is something else.

The UK has the best healthcare system in the world. It may be dirty at times, but at least I aint gotta spend $12,000 when I need a new kidney. Besides, it's a tax worth paying.

That high?

TROUSRS is back, though (or was -- I'm sure I saw an RP post involving him) and I do recall seeing a Moleland 2, although not recently.

As for green taxes, I can't say I've ever heard of them. Is it some kind of tax which varies in severity based on the contribution you're theoretically making to atmospheric carbon dioxide levels? Does it go to fund cloud seeding or ozone replenishment or some new technological process that reverses the effects of global warming? About how much would this tax be? Would I get deductions for planting trees in my front yard? Et cetera.

A former legend that sadly few remember. But I shall carve a new legend.

A former legend on an internet forum, that's pretty much the same as a deleted file on an obsolete hard disk that is happily rusting away with other electronic garbage in your shed. But never mind that.

Ecotaxes have a benefit: they make people think about the products that they manufacture or consume. People usually are more willing to change their ways when confronted with economic sanctions for their old, polluting behaviour than when you try to point out the fact that their children and their children's children have to suffer the consequences of the mess they and their predecessors brought forth. You can try reasoning, but often a big stick is more convincing.

The internet is a mean place, I'm afraid. This forum certainly isn't an exception. Mind you, I didn't want to insult you or anything. I was just stating something that I thought was obvious. If that makes me a cynical git, so be it.

And even though I don't remember you (I was pretty much non-active on this forum for years, so that ain't too strange), it's good to have you back.
