Best Video game music.

I, being an avid gamer, have been raised on music from Video games since the age of two. I've developed an extra ear for hearing music because of this, and I can almost tell if it's just orchestral or music from a game just by listening to it. Well, for the most part. Needless to say, I love most VG music, and have a four way tie for best music in a series, that being:

Tie: The Legend of Zelda. Who HASN'T heard it?
Tie: Halo. Mostly the Mjolnir mix, but the rest of the music is also very good.
Tie: Wild Arms. I love the music in this. I just do. It's incredibly awesome.
Tie: Metal Gear Solid. Need I say more?

So fellow NSGers, which games' music makes it onto your list?

I'ven't picked up enough on the music from all the games I've played to evaluate them well.

Fable was the first game w/music that stood out to me enough I wanted to hear it outside the game. All the songs are similar in style but it's a refreshing style compared to pop, rap, rock, etc.

Max Payne's theme sums up the game's emotion.

Medal of Honor has some cool music.

Nihilius's theme and the Jekk bar's music from KOR2 were good.

What videogame music has added the most to a game you played?

Max Payne had a great theme, and fantastic audio in general. I don't know how many times I turned the sound down and looked out the window behind me to see if it was raining. It was always in the game that the rain was. It's a shame that they couldn't have worked the theme into the Max Payne movie trailer, but hopefully it'll be used somewhere in the movie.

As for which music has added the most to a game I've played... probably Rez. When you get into the zone, when the audio, the visuals and the vibrations all blend together with your actions, it's magical.

I'm going to have to go with Jeremy Soule's tracks to Morrowind and Oblivion. They are truly phenominal. Though Halo has good music as well, and Assassin's Creed is decent, the Soule's work is masterful. I will add that Hearts of Iron 2 has a very good track called "Heroes of the Sky: The Royal Airforce" which is among my favourite videogame songs.

Any Final Fantasy music by Nobuo Uematsu, but especially that from 7 and 9

The title themes to Morrowind and Oblivion

the Ratchet & Clank games and Diablo 2 have music that perfectly fits the gameplay and graphics. Maybe not the most stunning compositions ever, but they mesh with the graphics and character of the games.

*edit* I thought the N64 Zelda games had rather good music, too. And curse you for starting a thread I've been planning to start myself!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y7OWkyV8eac MGS1 - Escape.

Oblivion had some nice music, and I liked the title music for BF1942. Half-life 2 has some appropriate music some certain sections, though not as good individually.

I feel more nostalgic about older game music, mostly Amiga titles:

Wing Commander,
Flashback - probably the best I've heard/played, so very fitting to the game,
Lemmings,
The Settlers - great background music,
Sensible Soccer - a rather amusing title track.

Looking at your VG music list (a perfectly beasty list) I have guessed that you have not played the 1998 strategy game: "Total Annihilation". The soundtrack from it one of my favourite orchestral scores. I always used to insert my TA disc before playing any other game, so I could listen to the music in, say, "JK: Mysteries of the Sith" or "Command & Conquer" (retro, I know xD)

I reckon you could find it on songza.com or something. It's really worth finding, in my opinion.

I couldn't turn it off, because I didn't know about it! The manual for that game sucked. It had way too many resources to manage, most of which you could never buy on the world market, the game assumed you were God over your country, because you could decide the outcome of a debate, your citizens listened to every word you said, it was impossible to defend anywhere because of the small provinces, impossible to keep any land for the same reason, the list goes on and on....
