What is your favourite cocktail?

How about a break from all this religion and politics with a welcome dash of sophistication. What is your favourite cocktail - mine is a well made martini - what is yours? Recipes welcomed

Martini

Fill a glass jug with ice. Add seven parts Plymouth Gin. One part Noilly Prat dry vermouth. Dash of orange bitters. Stir. Serve in a martini glass with a strip of lemon zest.

Martini

+1

However, I like it a bit drier.
1. add ice to glass
2. Add a dash of vermouth
3. Shake it around
4. Drain
5. Add about 3 shots of gin
6. Shake
7. Drain into martini glass
8. Add an olive (make sure it doesn't have any brine left on it)

Dirty Martini - your choice of vodka or gin with brine - I prefer the vodka.

It changes. Currently Gin and Dubonnet.

Frequently also dry martinis, gins and tonic and occasionally I create my own.

Usually out of gin.

Like all truly great things, it's an acquired taste :)

It's entirely acceptable, if not following the original, to base with gin - dry vermouth should also be there though I prefer heavy on brine.

Given all the things I have made I am hardly one to criticize :)

What proportions would you advise?

I have vermouth, Russian Standard and Tanqueray and olives at home so I might try both "flavours." In the name of science of course

You know what? I've never actually made one myself.

From what I know, it's generally made with equal parts brine and vermouth so I always ask the bartender to tip the balance in favour of brine.

Manhattans are my latest fascination, followed closely by smoky martinis.

Margaritas of any variety are delicious. On the rocks, blended, or frozen, plain ol' lime or raspberry, strawberry, pomegranate, mango, blackberry, currant - I'll drink and enjoy pretty much any lime/lemon+tequila+other fruitiness concoction. :)

Definately rum based due to an all inclusive in Cuba. Probably mohito or caipirinha, although I have a soft spot for a daquiri despite it being as sophisticated as an alcoholic slush puppy

The J version of a highball, "chu hai" is the cocktail I imbibe most often - shochu, soda, and lemonb or lime.

Rusty Nails I like.

Proper Margarita's are good - none of the so called "strawberry margarita" crap please.... (:::smacks Poliwanacraca violently about the head:::)

Screwdrivers, Harvey Wallbangers, and Tequila Sunrises I like too.

Gin and Tonic is a Dais killer...

Caipirinhas are awesome!

Daquiri's are good too.

A lesser known fave is a "frozen steppes" - vanilla ice cream and vodka.

A bar maid here in Osaka many years ago used to make an awesome Frozen B52 version of the last one, I called Cold War - a B52 over the Frozen Steppes...

Caipirinha kicks ass!! Cachaza kicks ass!! Brazil is a god with that drink.

FYI NSG: It's written Mojito. Make it with Bacardi and you're made.:D

More delicious girly-drinks for me, then. :p

(Strawberry is actually my least favorite variety that I've tried, though - it ends up a bit too blandly sweet. Raspberry is better.)

Seconded -- they have a whole line, but Rose is the best of the bunch, IMO.
