Dumbest/most offensive "journalist" on TV

Skyland Mt

Inspired by the Lou Dobbs impeachment comments (what the hell, call it what it is, the Lou Dobbs bashing thread:)).

So, who is the most mind-numbingly, frusteratingly stupid or down right offensive individual on a television "news" show?

You can't be both dumb, offensive and a TV host at once.

To stay on TV while being offensive requires some intelligence.

I meant whose views are dumbest, not who's best at pulling in viewers. Sadly, stupidity and large audiences tend to go hand-in-hand.:(

Nancy Grace. The others are merely stupid and annoying. That woman has real influence in the cases she decides to jump on. Hell she drove one poor woman to suicide.

Glenn Beck. Because he makes me want to actually reach into the television and hit him in the face.

Although I did enjoy poll co-option Colbert's venn diagram take on Hannity's "greatest best country god has given us on the face of this earth" retardo-sentence.

Stephen Colbert is dull and smug, much like his programme, but I reckon Glen Beck is the Actually Worst Candidate.

Not sure why yer "worst" question is multiple choice, but I think I'll take advantage of this :p

Aha, no, no, no. I have a late runner! Kelvin Mackenzie, who, when publicising his intention to contest David Davis' by-election, portrayed himself as a shameless, transparent, ignorant and futile demagogue. Go and find it on the BBC, it really is quite special.

Another UK nomination from the same category as Kelvin Mackenzie would be the always delightful Richard Littlejohn.

The fact that these two seem to do quite well on Question Time is one of my stock responses to anyone who attempts to praise that infantile pile of crap.

Why Colbert? He's a comedian... nothing like those other guys. Colbert is doing it for the lolz and nothing more.

(I don't even know Glenn Beck (thank the Gods for not living in the US; cuts down on Grace exposure tremendously, too) but there is simply no way anybody could be worse than that... that... I don't even have a word.)

Steven Colbert, although unbearably smug is certainly not the worst.

Bill O' Reilly probably. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, other then X-Play and attack of the show.

It's a tough choice, but I went with O'Reilly because his habit of flagrantly making shit up and then insulting his guests when they tell him his flagrantly made-up nonsense is untrue is hard to top.

Colbert really, really doesn't belong on this list, because whatever one thinks of his show or his politics, it would be hard to deny that he's intelligent. (Also, he's dead sexy and I want to have his babies, but it's not like I'm biased. ;) )

Intelligence does not necessarily make for good TV, nor does it stop how UNBEARABLY SMUG HE FRICKEN IS! GAH!

I can only assume that Glen Beck's failiure to overtake O'reily is due to Beck not being as well known. This guy is nuts.

He rants on and on about Iran, implying it is part of End Times profficy. He is, as has already been mentioned, extreemly smug. He seems to hate the UN, and I frankly wouldn't be surprised if he believed all that new world order conspiracy bull. And like Dobbs, he goes on to some length about illegal immigration. Not as much as Dobbs, but some of Beck's most heated retoric seems almost to be suggesting a state of war with Mexico.

Really, this guy is the bottom of the barrel. What's sad is that ocassionly he does say really smart things, so I actually believe that he had the potential to be a very smart person. Pity its submerged under conservative BS and religious indoctrination.:headbang:

You realize that's his character, right? It started as a parody of O'Reilly which, while it developed it's own identity after a while, is still at it's core a character for the show.

Colbert shouldn't be on that list. He makes fun of everyone else on that list. He is an actor, filling a role. He is just really, really, good at it and never breaks character.

Not even outside the show, actually. Whenever he makes a public appearance he tends to use the persona. So the fact that it's not always to clear to people can probably be forgiven.

Hell, it's only after reading an interview with him that I appreciate the difference between Stage Colbert and Stephen Colbert.

i had the unenviable chance to hear glenn beck discussing the detriments of fluorescent light bulbs this week.

he (or one of his moron guests/listeners that he agreed with) suggested that they are DANGEROUS because of the lag time between flipping the switch and the light coming on....what if there was a killer in your house... he would kill you before that light came on!!

he is pretty damned dumb

Just looking at that list has made me realize once again how badly blurred the distinction between "commentary" and "journalism" has become in the US.

He's so open minded though! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JegKCAO6N7I)

Not to get too side tracked but doesn't the above clip show something about the state of "political correctness"? A reasonable response is to call Beck a moron, swear a bit and then storm off the show. Instead he's talking about his patriotism, he's agreeing with these absurd ideas and generally having to back away from his own ethnicity. Bigotry is acceptable in public discourse, euphemistic "patriotism" is treated as standard and anyone who appears to slightly deviate from any norm is pressured to conform.

Well, there was this one time he went on Bill O's show and basically told him to STFU and stop being an idiot. It was actually pretty cool.
Not that he's a good journalist; he's horrible. But it was enough for me to make him less bad than, say, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly.
