Best fast food chain?

East Coast Federation

Lets face it, when we're in a rush, feeling lazy, or cheap, or just plain in the mood for it, we all eat fast food from time to time.

Which chain is your fave and why?

For me its McDonalds, cheap, fast and in the past few years they're quailty has gone way up.

Burrito joints.

"Hardees," I think, is Carl's Jr. on the west coast, which is okay. Jack in the Box, which I guess is also only in the west, is better. In 'n Out Burger is the best straight burger of the fast food chains.

McDonalds is McNasty. It's about the worst tasting hamburger available-it's what I imagine a salt lick would taste like if it came in meat form. Horrible. Just, horrible. Burger King at least manages to taste like an assembled sandwich instead of a puck meant to taste like one.

Arby's is one of those places where you see them and eventually think, "Why don't I go there for a change..." then you do, and you realize why you haven't so you don't until you've been away long enough to go, "Why haven't I eaten there?" Same holds for A&W.

Your poll fucking blows.

You didn't include the two best fast food chains, Carl's Junior and In & Out.

Anyway, "best fast food chain" is really more of a "least worst" sort of thing.

Carl's Junior= Hardees I've only seen Carl Jr. in the south west and Wes. Best fast food, I'd say is Deer. It runs faster than cows and chickens.

Is Argbys a knock off or Arby's? ;)

As with most of these type of threads, I object to the use of best - favorite is more appropriate. :)

For burger fast food, MOS burger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mos_Burger) beats anything back home.
Maid Rite's technically not a burger, but is close enough, and they're prolly my fave US burger type place.
For Mexican fast food, Freebird's or Taco Cabana.
Nakau does a better rice bowl than most of the chains I can think of.

Hahah, I worked at a Mcdonalds for 3 years in high school, our Ticket times were rarely over 150 seconds, which is just over 2 minutes. Our record is 187 cars in one hour+ a line out the front.

If the people working there are any good, it shouldn't take any more than a few minutes.

No, we'd call them AWESOME.

The only thing that sucks about BBQ is I have a big ol' goatee. I need a small forest's worth of napkins.

And I can still get a burrito in the same amount of time as I can a McDonald's burger, usually form a family owned joint and it's so much better that the gap cannot be measured.

Which is not to say I snub fast food all together, but it's fairly rare these days-usually if I don't want to get out of the car.

It's fast food. By definition it's horrible, both in taste and for you.

That said, local chains do tend to have better tasting--though not much--food over national chains. There's a place near me(that I haven't been to since some time last year) called the Cruz Inn. It's a small place in a trailer more than an actual building, but it's okay.

A couple things...
1) Some places are better than others. McDonalds in Japan is quite slow. (And for some reason, they seem to reheat items in the microwave here. BLEAH!)

2) From a server standpoint 150 seconds from the order til the food is delivered may be two and a half minutes, but from the customer side of things, add in the 5-10 minute wait in line, the mathmatically challenged cashier's slow count of the change, and so on...

No, we'd call them AWESOME.

Indeed.

The only thing that sucks about BBQ is I have a big ol' goatee. I need a small forest's worth of napkins.

At least you don't have my full beard.... ;)

And I can still get a burrito in the same amount of time as I can a McDonald's burger, usually form a family owned joint and it's so much better that the gap cannot be measured.

Indeed. My fave little local fast food curry place will have a plate in front of me within a minute of my walking through the door. And the food will be both healthier and tastier than Micky D's...

And it's pretty much the same for most other local fast food over here.

Which is not to say I snub fast food all together, but it's fairly rare these days-usually if I don't want to get out of the car.

McDonald's is good, but of course you have to be in the right mood for reprocessed food.

If Hardy's is Carl's Jr., then I'd say that's the best out of the choices.

Also:

Fast food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered to be fast food, typically the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with low quality preparation and served to the customer in a packaged form for take out/take away. The term "fast food" was recognized in a dictionary by Merriam-Webster in 1951.[1]

If you want to find Taco Bell, you have to make a run for the border. Heh.

As for White Castle, although they do use the highest quality meat of any fast-food chain(or so I've heard, I have absolutely no evidence to back this up), the appeal of the slider lies not in it's 'food value'(which could be said for any type of fast food, really)but in its conveinence. Plus, they personify(or would if they were people, but I'm on a roll, so bear with me)and embody, by their existence, the very nature of 'drunk food.'

Alternative meanings

"Company Man" also is a term relating to a "Yes" Man, or someone who will do anything demanded of them by those who are supervising them. This term originated in the military where groups or divisions of soldiers were called "companies," thus the term Company. The term has since been used in the private sector as a term to demean someone who is well liked by their superiors and often gets better or lighter jobs than the rest of their co-workers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Company_man

You called it on yourself. You want to call yourself a derogatory term for a "yes man" who excuses a companies bad behaviour and executes the bosses nasty plans, you're welcome to it...

I'd be highly insulted if anyone called me a company man...

Know of Culvers, butr haven't been to one. You got it right re White Castle, although I've had worse... (Worst chain burger place ever was "JR Burger", a chain that was associated w/ Japan Rail - imagine what "Amtrak Burger" would be like, and you'll get the idea...)

Since you seem to be a mid-westerner, do ya'll have Maid Rite? The ones I've been to since my family moved to Iowa seem to be a nice combo of historiocity and local charm, with some decent food...

No we don't have a Maid Rite...it sounds familiar though. I am from Wisconsin. Place where culver's was founded. It really is a good restaurant.

I was only claiming that about the one I worked at, seriously, that place is spotless.

And what is so wrong with being a " Yes Man ". Nothing is wrong with that, the company is paying you to come do a job, you work for them, its not your place to tell them what they're doing is unjust or bad for the environment or blah blah

Sure eventually I plan on starting my own business down the road in life, but until then I will be a " Yes Man ". Because the yes man who does a good job and works hard for his employer gets promoted, and gets paid more than people who come and do the bare minimum.

Hmm, I don't think you have seen some of the roadside diners that serve travelers until a McDonald's comes. At least with McDonald's you know what you're going to get, food-wise and cleanness-wise. With a non-chain, you're taking a risk.

I voted for McDonald's, because it has the best french fries of any fast food place I know, and that's all I usually get. Recently, though, our town was invaded by a smaller and slightly more classy chain called Five Guys, whose french fries exceed McDonald's in both quality and quantity. When I'm at home, I usually opt for them.

McDonald's usually has soggy fries, in my experience. Gross. And their burgers are tasteless. I don't mean "in poor taste," they're literally bland to the point of their taste being almost completely absent.

I've never had a McDonald's burger. In fact, I don't think I've ever had any beef product from a fast food place. That's strange, now that I think of it, because I have no real objection to eating beef or fast food. Hm.

As for the fries, yes, they're no great shakes. They're great fries! *laughtrack* No, you're right, they are undercooked. But out of the fast food places (barring Five Guys), I like them more than the rest.

My hubby loves White Castle (when we're in the US), but OH MY GOD it stinks!! I have yet to taste it, simply because I cannot get over the smell..

Lets face it, when we're in a rush, feeling lazy, or cheap, or just plain in the mood for it, we all eat fast food from time to time.

Which chain is your fave and why?

For me its McDonalds, cheap, fast and in the past few years they're quailty has gone way up.

McDonalds, cheap? Maybe where you live, but over here prices just go up up up for the same shite food. A single cheeseburger, medium fries and soda is $5. For $5 I could have a day's worth of food.

Taco Bell is the only fast food place I really frequent since college (and even then, not often). Their prices have stayed low--hell, they even have new 79 cent items--and they don't usually make me feel like I'm going to vomit after, like most burger places. Plus the one close to my house is, like, the best in the East Bay, and the people are really friendly and accommodating.

If I have to eat fast food burgers, I usually make it Carl's, purely for the fries. But the local burger place makes better at the same price.

I voted BK - because their hamburgers are effectively "bigger than theM" as a BK ad I saw some years ago went.
As for Wendy, it disappeared from Milan at least 10 years ago - it never became a major player here.

Anyway when I'm in a rush I prefer a pita gyros with plenty of garlic, or a döner kebab with plenty of onions, or a take-away pizza, or even a spring roll at a chinese take-away. Take-away fried fish has become too expensive here, and most sushi bars serve shitty pre-made sushi - I eat sushi at good japanese restaurants only.

Wow... goddamn this is weird. So many slugs on here.

The Hungry Slug's burgers have gotten a lot better. They're actually good now, whereas when I arrived fall of 05 they were a bit less than satisfactory. The Oreo Shakes are good, but the taquitos really are not up to par.

I wouldn't exactly call the Hungry Slug "fast food," though. It often takes quite a while.

And also, yes, Pleasure Pizza on Mission is no more. Their building got sold to new landlords who kicked them out first thing upon owning the place. Stupid thing is, they haven't replaced them with anybody yet. I miss dollar tuesday.

This was separate from Straw Hat. Straw Hat was a few blocks away and somehow failed. I don't know how they managed that.
