Seriously, you can't have been watching a lot of football overall if you thought that was good playing.
It was creative fouling throughout all their games, though, I'll give them that.

I suspect you really don't watch all that much football do you? I'll forgive you it on the grounds you're an ignorant yank. Turkey have not actually played football; irrespective of their injuries, they set out only to stop Croatia scoring, by means illegal and legal, and hence produced a turgid, sterile game of football punctuated only by Croatia failing to convert the chances they had.

The best? Yesterday?

Based on my cell-phone updates the game was pretty miserable until the Croats scored, and then the Turks suddenly went into win-mode. Admittedly, I couldn't actually see the game because I was at work, so I don't know how exciting or unexciting it actually was.

Honestly, though, I'm looking forward to Netherlands-Russia today. If the Russians play as well as they did against the Swedes, it might be the best game of EuroCup.

I can assure you, it was mindnumbing. I've rarely been so bored by a game that was, admittedly, so bloody.

I say the Netherlands go through :D

To be honest our best performance was our come back against the Czechs.

Yeah, they've been playing with consistent excellence. It's a shame we won't see more of Russia though. I would have liked to see them play at least one more game like they did against Sweden. Their passing was phenomenal and the Swedes just couldn't shut down the offense. Now all I can hope for is an exciting showing against the Netherlands, but - more than likely - their last showing.

I'm sure it will be exciting. All Netherland games so far delivered a lot of excitement and a lot of good football.
I'm looking forward to the Turkey- Germany game next week with rather more mixed feelings.

All my jumping in the crowd with the flag of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (well, technically it's the flag of Schleswig-Holstein I borrowed from a friend, but the colours and the order of colours are exactly the same, anyway) cheering for Croatia led to nothing :(

Unless you think it's appropriate for an American to call you an ignorant tea-swilling limey, it's not appropriate to call an American an ignorant yank.

I blame the fact that they rested the core of their team after the first two group games, and thus did away with the nice momentum that they had built up. I can understand why Van Basten decided to do it -- the risk of picking up bookings in what was a meaningless game and having players suspended for the first knockout phase was considerable (witness the players that Turkey now have available for the semis) -- but I can't help feeling that they'd have played a lot better last night if they'd stuck to the same team.

A shame, but such are the Euros :p

Certainly there are many "explanations" as to "why" the "Dutch" "team" lost yesterday (how are these sneer quotes working out for you?). What is clearly the most reasonable explanation is that I was rooting for Russia. I favored Germany in Ger-Por and Turkey in Cro-Tur. Clearly, I am some sort of prophet. If my trend toward accuracy continues, we can expect the Spanish team to win comfortably after Buffon's organs spontaneously implode prior to the match.

They ran out of steam, while the Russian team managed to start up their boilers when they crushed Sweden.

You're missing the point rather. To claim Turkey actually played football, let alone good football, betrays an ignorance of what good football constitutes. Were I to make an obviously fictive statement, wothout any real knowledge of the sport, about whatever American sport was currently being discussed on NSG, I wouldn't object if this was criticised.

Correct - they were for the just born daughter of Boulahrouz that died the 18th.

As a sidenote, van de Sar has announced that he is now "retired". Pity it wasn't a better last game for him - the guy was quite good.

Actually it was the early-born daughter of Boulharouz, that died. Only minutes after he was exchanged, the attack of russia though his former position lead to the 1:0.

The matter with the Dutch team? The typical: they had an early lead (in the championship, not the game), layed back, and couldn't get back in the swing of things until it was too late.
