Lou Dobbs: Bush Should Be Impeached for Salmonella Outbreak
CNN host says leadership in 'sorry condition' and inability to 'protect the American consumer' is 'sufficient reason to impeach a president.'

CNN’s Lou Dobbs has been on a tear about the recent tainted-tomato salmonella outbreak, but this time he’s taken it a step further and is calling for the ultimate political punishment.

The “Lou Dobbs Tonight” host placed the blame for the recent salmonella outbreak squarely on President George W. Bush, calling for his impeachment on the June 19 broadcast. Contaminated tomatoes from an unknown source or sources have sickened 383 people since April, according to the Associated Press.

“You know, I have heard a lot of reasons over the years as to why George W. Bush should be impeached,” Dobbs said. “For them to leave the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in this state, its leadership in this sorry condition and to have no capacity apparently or will to protect the American consumer – that is alone to me sufficient reason to impeach a president who has made this agency possible and has ripped its guts out in its ability to protect the American consumer.”

“It’s insane what’s going on here,” said a visibly angry Dobbs. “Is there any sense of embarrassment on the part of the leadership of that agency?”

On June 18, Dobbs called the FDA “excessively intellectually challenged.” The night before he called the FDA “moronic.”

“The FDA, led by complete moronic, unengaged incompetents,” Dobbs said on his June 17 broadcast. “The idea that they would sit there and say that they’re not going to reveal where a cluster of this outbreak occurred, this is arrogant beyond belief. Who in the world do these idiots think they are? Who do they think they’re working for?”

He also implicated Bush in that tirade: “As for this administration, were a responsible president at the helm of this country, I would wonder why he is not taking action, but then again, this is of course his FDA and his legacy.”

LOL

Now I do think Bush has done a heap of impeachable stuff, but this is just plain stupid. I used to like Lou, but over the last couple years he's lost it....

What do ya'll say out there in NSG wonderland?

All the horrible, horrible things that Dubya's done, yet he wants to impeach him over a salmonella outbreak?

That'd be like trying to impeach Nixon over a parking ticket and not even mentioning Watergate.

Exactly....

Yeah. Bush's support for CHEERS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHEERS) strikes me as a bit more callous than this.

Well I've always been in favour of a good Bush-Bashing, and have made no attempt at hiding my contempt for the man and willingness to blame him and his cronies for damn near everything, but THIS I cannot blame him for. The FDA, sure. But otherwise I just have to say "Shit happens."

Not this, because of...

Bush has been staffing the organizations that should be looking out for consumer interest with people looking out for business interest. So, yeah, the incompetence of the FDA is pretty much his fault.

...this.

Using the "staffed with cronies and incompetent yes-men" argument could also explain FEMA and Michael "Heckuva Job" Brown.

EDIT: I acknowledge your retraction, Wunderjar.

i guess its the straw that broke the camel's back (or lou dobb's brain).

so many things have gone wrong due to bush's bad policies that one outbreak of bad tomatos that the fda is too incompetent to track down in a reasonable amount of time did lou in.

Bush is a fking salmonella outbreak.

Don't think there will be impeachmets but I think Bush will end up in jail after his presidency is over. There will be a big debate about possible war crimes which could go either way, but he is going down for his involvment in selective prosecution. (most notibly for the prosecution of former Alabama governor Don Seigelman)

Well Lou is right to lay the incompetence of the FDA squarely in the President's lap, but if we were going to impeach Presidents for appointing incompetent sycophantic toadies into critical positions for which they have no ability to manage, that would have been done about six months after FEMA's crackerjack efforts in post-Katrina New Orleans.

Or when the CIA said it was a 'slam dunk' that there were WMDs in Iraq. :p

As for Lou Dobbs, he's a little nutty, but somehow I suspect he was trying to parody the various impeachment calls with this, to try and say they were ridiculous. Why he would do that I don't know--I could've sworn Lou Dobbs hated the Bush administration--but it seems more likely to me than him seriously believing that a simple food issue that wouldn't have even been considered a problem ten years ago is worth impeachment.

Lou Dobbs is pathetic. And yeh, you want to impeach over this? What about Hurricane Katrina? Or, if we want more than simple incompitance, how about possible electoral fraud(2ooo and 2004), war crimes(to many to list), shreading the Constitution(again, too many to list), or treason(leaking a CIA agent's identity)? Those not good enough for you, moron?

I read this:
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/How_Bush_US_attorney_riddled_with_0401.html

What part did you snip and miss?

The conflict was a major factor in then-Democratic Lieut. Gov. Don Siegelman’s election as governor in 1998. Almost as soon as Siegelman took office, however, Pryor initiated a series of corruption investigations against him. After the Bush administration took office in 2001, these state probes were elevated to the federal level at the hands of US Attorney Leura Canary. As reported in The Permanent Republican Majority – Part Three, Rove and Canary also helped promote the Siegelman investigations.

In neighboring Mississippi, meanwhile, the tobacco suit had produced several extremely wealthy trial lawyers, who became major funders of the local Democratic Party.

In 2003, a Bush-appointed US Attorney, Dunnica Lampton (above right), brought federal charges against one of those lawyers, plaintiff’s attorney Paul Minor, alleging that he had bribed a Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, Judge Oliver E. Diaz, Jr.

Just as in the case of Governor Don Siegelman in Alabama, when the first trial of Diaz failed to produce the desired result of removing him from his elected seat in 2005, fresh charges were brought almost immediately.

Lou Dobbs is sadly deranged and I'm honestly surprised that he is taken seriously enough to have his own show. Not that I'm defending Bush on this or any other issue, but this is yet another example of how absurd dobbs is. The man can speak well, but his ideas are motivated purely by a sense of moral indignation at whatever offends his "traditionalist" American sentiments. He's even worse than Bill O'Reiley. Both men are reasons I try to avoid cable news.

Well said. His success his based on anti-immigrant fear mongering and CNN's desire to cater to Fox New's audience demographic. I simply can't see why else he would have succeeded.

Though supposedly he is pro space travel, and helped found Space.com(excellent site). This goes a small way towards redeeming him in my eyes.
