Highlights include...FRA will still be able to conduct mass surveillance of law-abiding citizens' communications without need for a court order. It will be able to read people's emails and text messages, listen to their conversations, see which websites they are visiting, create "sociograms" that map out the friends people have. And so on.

Yup.

We don't even have these "sociograms". Facebook had them back in the day, but they got to complex. Now they just plain don't exist.

This is indeed a horrible measure, and I'll be very interested in what the "improvements" will be that they promised to repair it with in order to get the sucker passed, and who the "control commission" will be that they added last minute.

But for a completely different question: Is somebody, anybody, able to tell me how they do this, technically? They say they will (only! hah!) monitor data crossing the national border. Now please keep in mind that I am a tech n00b and have no working knowledge of the intricacies of the internet and data flow in general, so bear with me if this is a stupid question, but: If random Swede #1 uploads something to some Swedish website which I, random German #2, later proceed to view, how and where does this data "cross the border" in a way that the FRA can discern, access, and control?

And if this manages to pass, a certain someone's nationalistic superiority complex will be cut down quite a bit.

It did pass, that's the main problem about it.

So basically, conservative governments should never come to power, or what?

Not to piss on Laerod's chips and all, but that's a gross mis-use of conservative. The only genuine Conservative on the shadow cabinet resigned over Labour's continued circumscription of civili liberites.

The majority government is currently a coalition with the moderate party, centre party, Liberal People's Party and the Christian democrats.

Bit off topic, eh, TBC? :p

Nah, hat's off to Davis, if he really did resign because of the law and not to kick up a stink for his own ends.

Off-topic? I wouldn't agree. But yeah, I've found a lot of respect for David Davis given that he, in standing down, I suspect he's foregone being Home Secretary after the next election.

Yup.

I thought about posting this, but people probably would have reacted in the usual way, so I just waited.

Terrible...
The majority government is currently a coalition with the moderate party, centre party, Liberal People's Party and the Christian democrats. Both the moderate and Christian Democrat party fall in the general category of "conservative".

I'm mainly trying to voice my puzzlement about what IF is trying to say, since I see little argument. It seems more like he's trying to get the attention of a certain Swede than make a point.
