Mozilla DDOS'd by Mozilla
As many of you probably know, June 17, 10am PST is the drop date for Firefox 3, and they're attempting a Guinness World Record of most downloads in one day as a kickoff promotion. I'm writing this at 10:11am PST, 11 minutes after the new Firefox 3 drop date, and the site has been down for the past ~15 minutes or so. In effect, the Mozilla foundation essentially DDoS'ed themselves with their record attempt (for the newbz, DDoS = distributed denial of service, where a site goes down due to massive amounts of connection requests)! You'd think they would have anticipated the massive load.
Anyway, when you're ready to give it a shot check it out here. I've been using it since 3.0b3 and it's pretty good so far.

Oh dear. Seems Firefox is a bit too popular for its own good. Ah well, I lol'd. And I can live with 2.whatever for another while.

maybe they cocked up the release date :p
Heh.
Maybe they should have distributed via bittorrent.

It seems to be working fine now. I'm viewing this page through my new copy of 3.

This DDOS thing... I don't get why they don't set their servers to set number of connection attempts and turn the rest away to a page that explains that they are too busy and to try again later.

Do you need to uninstall your current version of firefox in order to install firefox three, or does it update it?

I'm on it now, but it seems a bit dodgy right now, might go back to firefox 2. I keep getting a password bank error as well, whats that all about?

Web browsers? Pah! I remember back when you had to mail a letter to the district web server office requesting a web site, and maybe three weeks later -- weather permitting, of course -- the postman would draw up on horseback to deliver you your web site. Now those were the days, yes indeed!

The back button is waaay too big. I'm perfectly capable of clicking on a small icon, I don't need one the size of a helicopter landing pad. Not sure I need the big icons that pop up when i start typing in the address bar either. I don't need help with a big freaking logo when I'm typing in my porn sites.
It seems to not be DDOSing for me right now. Unfortunately I can't download it (not my computer).

Then wait for some new skins; or create your own.
All but three of my extensions aren't working, but that'll change too. It's only the first few hours of the full release.

Here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7) then.
I'm using it with the small icons enabled. Small and unobtrusive.
Use that until miniFoxFlat (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1202) gets updated.
Props to the 1 guy in Niger who downloaded it.:D

I'd be more amused if there were downloaders in a certain office in Redmond, Washington.

What about Chad?
Im using it now, and so far i have no complaints...Ive noticed a slight speed increase and the back and forward buttons are different and theres a most visited button...
Who still uses Firefox after all these silly marketing gimmicks? :p
Probably the funniest example is this from youtube:
YouTube recommends upgrading to a safer, modern browser such as Firefox. Get It Now!
(where get it now is naturally a link to FF page)
