Floods Cover Cedar Rapids
Floods currently cover over 400 blocks of Cedar Rapids, with flood levels at a record level for the city, which avoided the infamous Mississippi River flood of 1993. The city of 120,000 has been entirely evacuated, with two deaths. The Cedar River, the source of the flood, is expected to crest Friday night at nearly 32 feet, shattering the previous record of 20 feet set in 1929. The city of Des Moines has urged anyone in low-lying areas to leave or find higher ground.

If you live in any of these cities or areas: Des Moines, Ames, the Quad Cities, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Springfield, Central and Eastern Iowa, the northern border of Illinois, West Central Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Northeast Missouri, or a small portion of Eastern Michigan, be alert and watch for official evacuation requests. The NOAA has stated that flooding in those cities and areas is imminent, if not already occuring. If you live in St. Louis, be ready, as the NOAA has stated that flooding is likely.

Apologies. That was only the first day, so it should be better today. I plan to add sports to the lineup (No entertainment, ever, I dislike giving celebrities attention)

Also, I had to put the Little Sioux one in. I live in Omaha, Nebraska, so it hit a little close to home for me.

I hope the deathtoll in the midwest flooding is kept to an absolute minimum. I have a harder time enjoying mass chaos when people die. Try to be polite, Iowans and remain alive. Kthnx.

I was afraid of that.

I took MSNBC News, summarized it, and put it into my own words.

I should provide a link.

So far, evacuation efforts have been going very well. I doubt there will be many deaths because of these floods.

Won't threads like this either end up focussing on one topic(and thus making the inclusion of the others pointless) or be very difficult to follow, with everyone weighing in on multiple topics of discussion in the same post, or in different ones?

Not to shit all over your idea or anything, but I think one topic per thread is sufficient.

It also serves as a quick reference point, so you don't have to go to another site to get news.

Nation States, to my knowledge, is not a media organisation. If people want to find the news there's a plethora of places for them to do so. If people want to discuss a news story they can make a thread about it. So what do you expect these threads to achieve?

gonna 'focus' on this one. It could've been worse, but some reports say that the scout's quick thinking kept the casualties down to a minimum. I for one, salute those who helped and offer sympathies for those who died.

It also serves as a quick reference point, so you don't have to go to another site to get news. nice, but not necessary. can't spoon feed everyone y'know. ;)

Erm... Kat already marked the last one as spam (At least I think it was spam) either way, it was locked. I don't think you should be making more of these threads.

I always wondered about that saying, "here goes nothing".
It's like saying "here doesn't go something", see it doesn't tell me much.

Gutted for them.

Well that news was rather unpleasant.
this calls for a cup of tea, it solves any issues and at the very least lets me know that my bin will smell better than the usual stuff i launch into it.
not that i launch anything in my bin per se, more put things in the bin, see that was just an expression. As were most of my other comments.
and at the last i say this, Peanuts to you all!

The company I work for has a lot of offices in Cedar Rapids/Des Moines/that general area, so I've been dealing with flood and related problems all week. Have to say, from what I've seen, the residents of the area seem to be dealing with a similar situation with rather more equanimity than the residents of New Orleans did.
