Jolt was just down for something like eight hours. I checked the Jolt front-page a few times, and apparently the whole site was down.
Which pretty much proves that they're fucktards. But since we don't pay to use their service, I guess we should say "our favourite fucktards." Our graceful benefactors of forum services, so much better than the one-winged pigeon comma telegraph comma or drumdedrumdedumdum-tok!-drum which we would probably be using otherwise to communicate.
Now, I admit this is a problem, and it's probably my personal problem, but: I really went spare. I got really irritable and a million new thread subjects piled into my brain demanding to be posted. I missed you, NSG, fit to tear my own heart out and eat it!
(OK, that definitely is a problem. My problem. Come back, everyone, I will try not to ... you know ... be so needy or whatever)
Sometimes I go for days without NSG, but other times I really have the hots for it. I'd settled in this thursday (OK, I thought it was friday, but that's another story) and I was getting that "in the zone" feeling where even indifferent posters seemed to be talking sense, and I could say what I meant without accidentally posting War and Peace, Books 3-17, and the prospect of going up to the shops, let alone any kind of gainful employment, was nothing compared to basking in the lucid chaos of NSG at its best.
Until dear, dopey old Jolt kicked us in the guts, at two-thirty in the afternoon my time. Grrr. Gnash. I should sue them for the dentist's bills from all this tooth-grinding I've been doing. Grudnzch!
So, how was it for you?

Similar sentiments. Only it was 2:30 am for me and I have this silly habit of getting a last read of something (anything) here before heading off to bed. Couldn't read it, so it seems I couldn't go to bed. I roamed less more boring sites and didn't sleep worth a flitter. It's all their fault for being down!!! :p

I really don't buy this 'it's free, so you can't complain' excuse that always gets trotted out when the forums are down. Nothing in life is truly free, and Jolt isn't hosting this site out of the goodness of its heart.
It's a business, and if a business doesn't make money it doesn't stay in business for very long. Which means we must obviously make money for them somewhere along the line. I don't pay for Google either, but I don't recall hearing in the news that they were having cash flow problems.
As such, they should get their act together. It's ridiculous how often the forum goes down.

I have no doubt that Jolt makes money out of Nationstates somehow. Why else would they host it?

For cheap laughs?
In all seriousness, however, I was sleeping most of the night, so while I did know Jolt was down, it troubled me little overall.
I did other stuff, like sleep and play a bit of Football Manager.

I realize that, with such a long, colourful and promiscuous signature, I am perhaps not the best person to point this out, but ...
Pure Metal, the biggest and most demanding clause of your signature is this "Save NSG" link which goes to a long-dead thread where HotRodia or someone suggested ripping the heart and soul out of NSG, and using it for garters or spats or something. It totally and utterly failed (and I helped in that I think) so maybe it might be time to stop drawing attention to the thread, in case someone actually succeeds in busting open that can of worms again?
Of course, NSG could be better. But given the utter contrariness of most of us, attempts to make it better by common consent will surely make it worse.
Let dead dogs pretend to be asleep, I say.

Well, and the Great Author, who graciously penned the text we all carry in our breast pocket and recommend to anyone we meet, the unquestionably Literate and Erudite Max the Great Barry, did lay down his own herd-earned money to make it so.

And is saying that to the press every time still a quick way to lose the coaching job?
I can't really remember the version I played, but it was roughly '00. I should have given it some more time, because I generally like having to consider a number of competing factors, and weigh them against each other. It was probably the real-time passages (the matches) which turned me off.

Nope. Now if you keep criticising a referee's decisions then the FA will give you a touchline ban and if you keep saying bad things then the Board will fire you. It's also bad to give the board an ultimatum...

The same folks who are working like demons on the epic masterpiece that is NationStates2 have now taken over the hosting and general maintenance of NS. Although the current forums are still hosted in Jolt (we're working on that as well), you should find the site a lot faster as we've migrated it to very beefy servers in our data centre (in New York City, if you're interested).
Theoretically it should all change, some teething issues will occur I'm sure.
I love that timewarps have returned.

That quote is from NS News or something, right?
I considered starting a whole thread about it. There are definitely real issues about where the server is located (copyright on posts, breach of copyright, 'terrorism', age-of-consent and other decency issues, and legal recourse against the server).
You know why I didn't? It has gone so unremarked, I thought it might be some kind of prank. Apparently it was announced on the 1st of May ... I was thinking "ooooh, no, I got pranked on the first of April, and that shit ain't going down again any time soon."
Thanks for bringing it up. Do please link, because it really is big news if true.

I don't actually know what a "Duff" is, or how one can be "Plum" (is that "plumb"?) but I did accidentally see a photograph which you said was of you.
So I can't actually reply to your post on account of thinking of that photograph, well no obviously I CAN reply because I am now, but I don't think I can actually say anything, on account of ... you know.

I see these posts with my name on them, but I don't remember typing them and in fact they don't even read like I wrote them (sometimes they have words in them I don't even know, but the words are used correctly) ... and my only alibi is "I went to sleep, I think."
I think the answer is probably to Suppress the Dormouse. But I'm not quite sure how to do that?
