Assuming you can't have it perfect or a mix of the two, which of the following would you rather have?

First I suppose. Depends on how many is few and the definition of 'fall behind' compared to good to great living. But I suppose that's the other thread. But I view the lowest quality of life in a society a more important measure of it than the highest.

wait you ask two questions in the OP

wealthy people tend to horde wealth (in Swiss bank account no less) whereas poor people send there kids to college and groovy stuff (thus the noodle industry booms!) this is also what I'd like to see

Ok so I said the majority to make a good to great living. But I have to say that would depend on what determined those who fall behind.

Mediocrity just isn't a goal to me. Anyway if the majority make good to great can they not take care of those who fall behind? Don't we do that already?

I reject the assumption that these have to be the only two choices. This is a false dichotomy.

there is not pure of either of these choices.

however given a choice of which to be closer to I choose the second one.

the poll itself is biased, was you expecting a perfect question?

surely if your rich you wouldn't be living near poor people :p (also its economy...I think)

I am a poor college kid right now. but i want the freedom to fail. I don't want to be protected my whole life. If I wanted that I would stay home and live with my Mom.

I'd be interested(in a academic, idle curiosity kind of of way) in seeing a breakdown of the poll with regards to Americans v. Europeans and how each voted with regards to this question.

Not at all. However, there are certain logical fallacies and the false dilemma is one.

so what your saying is you want some kind of hardcore eXtreme lifestyle where you die at 30 when you break your leg

also question was economic

I'd like to see it done with education in economics myself because its fairly obvious that catching the libertarian is an American thing

Aaaand now I'm interested(in a idly curious way) in seeing if you equate "educated in economics" with "supports a planned/regulated economy" "supports laissez-faire" or some mixture of the two.

I'm not sure if I can come up with a fiendish plan to alter what an economics curriculum includes and thus it what its grades involve :(

that is unless I get the ebil govenrment involved!!1

I see no reason to replace mom with big brother aka the goverment.

other than the need in todays sociaty but I won't let such holes disturb the endless stream of George Orwell references

Agreed

--------

A False Dichotomy\Faulty Dilemma is a fallacy in which a person uses the following pattern of "reasoning":

Either claim X is true or claim Y is true (when X and Y could both be false).
Claim Y is false.
Therefore claim X is true.
This line of "reasoning" is fallacious because if both claims could be false, then it cannot be inferred that one is true because the other is false. That this is the case is made clear by the following example:

Either 1+1=4 or 1+1=12.
It is not the case that 1+1=4.
Therefore 1+1=12.
