Broken Leg

So I broke my femur on Wednesday trying to be a footballer. I'm laid up for a couple weeks and was wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I ask because I'd like any exercises I could do outside of my regular walking a little each day on crutches. Something I could do while sitting on the couch etc.

I think you're doing it right now, slick.

On the exercise, you ought to look at isometrics.

You're odd in that you sometimes sound normal and sometimes sound like the character Dr. Bob Kelso, from "Scrubs".

Just saying.

Great, that's what I was thinking, thanks.

I tore my ACL in high school. I used my down time to learn French. Exercise your mind.

I imagine that would be very difficult with my femur having a rod in it now :P I can't even have people sit on my lap.

I do have to study for finals so I think my mind will be somewhat expanding, good suggestions, thanks.

Maybe the "slick"? It sorta sounds like a way in which Kelso would address a younger person, like "sport"...

Perry. ;)

Sex fiends, haha. I don't think I'll have the energy for any of that until my blood count get back up.

Unfortunately for my finals there have already been about 20 movies rented for me in addition to games.

2 weeks for a busted femur?

You are joking

Even if its got a rod in it, you are still looking at 8 weeks min before they'll even think of taking the crutches away. :(

Believe me... I've been there and done it... although in my case it was busted tibia and femur.. (both rodded and baling wire wrapped around femur to keep it together), other leg was busted fibia, tibia and PCL

<<spent about 26 weeks laid up and 4 weeks when they tried getting the rods out

No no, I meant two weeks where I'll be mosly couch ridden without being able to move a whole lot outside of RR trips and the like. I was looking for things I could do on the couch that would help.

Dad is currently laid up with a shattered femur, shattered ankle (different legs), and broken fingers on both hands. His big moment was being able to call me to tell me he wiped his own ass.

Point of this? Set your standards for entertainment low. *nods*

Talk to a physio.

Concentrate on upper body. I can't see you been able to do much with anything below the hip (or even sit ups style thing)

The most important thing at this stage of injury is to provide an environment for the body to heal itself. In a muskuloskeletal sense, that means no force bearing through the injured bone.

Make sure you have plenty of calcium in your diet: At the very least to ensure the bone-mineral density of your other bones doesn't alter.

Things to do whilst laid up:
Study, computer, TV, read a book, have mates over, learn a new skill!

Man, I can totally relate to that sentiment. That has definitely been one of the most difficult and somewhat humiliating things to do so far.

On a related note, any recommendations on movies? I'll try most anything once except for cheesy romance movies but romantic comedies are good. I also enjoy ridiculous action movies.
