A Purrfect ending

Firefighters have used a vacuum cleaner with a sock on the end of the nozzle to rescue a six-hour-old kitten which had become trapped down a drain.

A quite impressive of ingenuity on the part of the firefighters. I have to say I have no idea how to turn this into a topic for discussion, but I thought it was a nice story anyway.

So...have you ever had to rescue a six hour kitten from a drain?

No, but I have had to pull out a baby that was stuck in a woman's cloaca with a suction bell.

Is that the medical name for a sink plunger?

I've looked that up and am still not certain, so I'll just ask: what is the cloaca?

No. It looks a bit like this:

It is the common chamber into which the intestinal and urogenital tracts discharge, especially in monotreme mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and elasmobranch fishes. Human females don't actually have cloacae as their urogenital tract is separate from their intestinal tract, but I use it as a misogynist moniker for vajayjays, as the Swedish word for sewer is "kloak" (unsurprisingly, since "cloaca" means sewer in Latin).

Were the woman and the baby ok?

Pity, I had a mental picture of a baby with a sink plunger stuck to its head.

Oh, they were just fine. IIRC the Apgar score for the kid was 7,8,10.

Congratulations. I'll give you a call if I'm ever in a situation where a baby needs pulling out. :p
