Part 6: Why?

Commander. Check.
Flagship. Check.
Sidekick. Check.
Fighter squadron(s). Check.
Marines commander. Check.

Why do you need these? Are you:

A rebel fighting an oppressive empire?
An empire crushing a nuisance?
A sovereign system or alliance fighting an outside invader?
A peaceful explorer who just wants to be prepared for the possibility of meeting hostility?

Give me a starship and I'd be peacefully exploring. Of course, that makes my choice of an Eclipse Class Super Star Destroyer extreme overkill.;) Then again, I fully intend to face oppressive regiems and improve backwards systems. To hell with the Prime Directive, the shield of morally lazy and apathetic cowards.:)

This was answered in the OP for part one, you're under attack.

But Why are we under attack?

I'd be under attack probably because I am the illegitimate father of the heir to the throne of the enemy. I've gotta stop having one-nighters with the wives of powerful enemies...

I would likely be under attack as a means to bring in my larger ally into a conflict that will weaken them for a future invasion.

All of the above.

I am the rebel empire preparing just in case I have to crush the nuisance of an invading empire and then invade them. And it will be a nuisance, given how I have Sir Molle and LG commanding my forces, based on a mobile planet, with Titan squadrons and Master Chief leading the Marines.

Yes.
Sure we couldn't have compressed it into one?

"Why do you fight, what's yer flagship, the captain, who do you want as marines, fighters and the third topic which I've forgotten?"

Official motivation: "to secure peaceful cohabitation, exchange and co-operation between everyone in the universe".

(My political officer will be happy to answer privately your questions about non-official motivations).

They all seem to have been started by different people, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon and ask which stereotypical scifi situation you were in.

a bunch of bored idiots without imagination enough to create and explore on their own, so we want to take over the rest of the universe and tell everyone how to live even if we don't know anything about them and how we would tell them to live would probably litterally kill most of them.

well at least that's what the dominant powers on earth today seem set upon.

cameroi's real answer of course is that we don't. which is why we don't have "war fleets" as such. we DO have a number of interesting ways of not needing them.

our world of lananara was only invaded once and it was almost a joke. the invaders were kind of cute, but they sure went to sleep easily. most woke up in side of hastily constructed jails carved out of solid rock, aside from the few that woke up dead.

nearly all were eventually released, some back to their home worlds and some into cameroi society where they mostly came to behaive themselves.

planet lananara does enguage in intersteller tourism, exploration, and a modest amout of commerce. mostly in the form of common carrier container ships.

of course we have our own shaire of occasional goofballs and would be privateers. but these, as indicated by our choices for those other things, are mostly harmless.

in short, we find war BORING. what gratifies us is creating and exploring.

thats why we're a nation of local high density low form factor and frequent service monorals, windfarms, jacusis in the libraries and royal suites in the old folks homes.

actually our old folks live in their own little shacks and cabbins out in the boonies, like most of us do.

that may make us sound like ripe pickings, but all of our citizens are very good with their sonic pitchforks.
