Do you keep a journal/blog?

I recently started blogging. I've never liked talking about my emotions with other people and the blog gives me a place to put down what I'm feeling and so on. I've found writing can actually be a comfort of sorts. So do you keep a journal, dairy or blog?

what do you have to write about?

I don't keep one because:

A) I'm not that interesting
B) I'd be worried that someone I know might find it and catch me whining

however I've always wondered if I should keep a diary for historical reasons

I started a blog because I kinda missed essay writing from back in college. Turns out I didn't miss it as much as I thought, because I barely ever update it and even occasionally waste time telling people what I'm up to.

I don't feel bad about the 'people' part, because all of two people read it.

I don't pimp it because for the life of me I can't see why anyone would care.

Most things I do I post to twitter. That way I don't have to spend long on it!

I do have a blog, where I put the occasional rambling thought down on (Sometimes you want a soapbox, even if there's no-one around to hear!) but that's rare.

Yeah, but I don't really go into detail on my emotions on it. I only really got it to join a group of friends that tries to produce a piece of art every week.

i've tried having more than one in the past, but i've always ended up realising - after just a post or two - that my life is not quite worth other people reading about. i mean, how interesting is "got up, went to work, did work, came home, ate some pasta, played GTA, went to bed"? that's largely what happens...

i suppose i could spout my political ideas, or other musings, but again i don't see the point. i don't read other people's blogs, for the most part, as i tend to see them as just some opinionated person droning on about shit they don't really know about under the pretense that they're somehow interesting, or their views are any more valid than anyone else's just because they have a platform to air them. hence the same applies to my own potential rantings/blog, and i don't do it.

Well said. But I suppose that, if you keep it like a diary, then it has a point for the writer.

I'd far rather read an interesting blog by someone who has something to say and an eventful life, than write one for myself with single sentence entries.

Yes, I keep a journal, although it's in LJ, no one can see it because it's completely private. I had a blog, but I haven't used it in 2 years or more. Now, if I need to rant, I use the SSA.

I didn't used to blog, but then my boyfriend was all like "Let's make one"! So we did. So now I suppose I have a blog (http://www.eternal.slightly-defective.net/). It's a public one. However, all of my *real* problems and such end up on Livejournal.

I keep 3. One is a personal blog, I haven't updated it in forever... like since... maybe November 07. I have a recipe blog, and also I write for a blog that satires the local news media.

I keep a blog, but it's not about my life. Rather, it's a repository for stuff I've written plus a way to try and get myself to write on a schedule.

I keep a private diary and occasionally post bits of it into Facebook notes. I usually don't post my rants though, just my poetry (which, at times, is a little rant-like itself).

I dont keep a blog about my personal life (have tried and find it booring talking to myself)

I AM tempted to make a technical blog though ... the number of times that I have been saved by a procedure on one of them is beyond count. I spend all day coming up with complex procedures to resolve problems. Might as well share that information with a wider audience then just my clients.

I kinda used to keep a blog once. It was only kinda because it was after a typed up some 'diary' notes that I'd been keeping and had just lost a considerable part of. I thought the internet would be a safer place to keep it from my own absent-mindedness and the prying eyes of others.

I think I needed that outlet then as I felt quite depressed at the time. But the last time I read through (a couple of years ago) a laughed my ass off. I think it was on livejournal or something, so really it was just another sheep amongst the flock.

I read in Scientific American Mind that blogging does have therapeutic benefits in the same way keeping a journal does, so it makes sense it could be a comfort.

I used to be a creative writing class where we posted our work on a blog, and then we could discuss the pieces online, as well as in class. I think it was a good idea, and would recommend it for any other class. Since then, though, I haven't kept a blog. I like the anonymity of the Web, and don't want to lose that quite yet. Sometimes I write things down in a notebook I have, usually short stories or outlines, but don't have a daily journal.

Yeah, I update my blog quite religiously, ranging from daily experiences to pointless musings. I do it for three reaosns:

1. To keep a repository of my past. I have a terrible memory, and a diary takes away any doubts to periods in my past.

2. To let my friends and family know what I'm up to, mainly because I live abroad and don't always have time to talk to my loved ones.

3. To keep myself semi-accountable for the things I think and do.

Oh, right. I've been on here long enough I know longer think of "limacon" as a polar graph but as me.

And for reference, my equation is: r=0.5 +cos(theta). I fail to see the beauty of the so-called "dimpled" limacons. I demand coils or nothing.

Not me. The moment I saw a cardioid, it was love at first sight.

Edit: To keep this on topic, the reason I don't blog is mainly because I don't think anyone else is particularly inclined to follow the convoluted, often incoherent, generally quite weird paths of my mind. I'm certainly vain enough to share, but I have enough shame to not do so if it'll be ignored.

Did. Kept track of lots of things i'd learned, as not to forget again ... had a notepad with me, so i could, as one reviewer had said of Eddie Vedder, "make a song out of every brain fart he ever has".
Ended up thinking that the best stuff i wrote was the stuff that made the least sense, even though it wasn't written as intentionally obfuscative.
I get caught up on NS every now & again with Sarkhaan, JuNii and Ruffy through Anecdote threads :D
