A rather serious question.

Now, for about the past three weeks, I've woken up to occasionally find new cuts on my person. There on different places and of different lengths and depths, most being skin wounds but a few were bleeding. I understand that it could be me bumping into things while sleepwalking, but I've never had any issues with that either. I've also moved or padded anything that could conceivably injure me. I've still be finding new injuries, however. I'm worried that I may somehow be hurting myself in my sleep. I've been depressed recently, but I've never had (consciously at least) any desire to self harm. I haven't told anyone yet, bar one internet friend and anyone who reads this (Go internet! *waves teeny flag*) as I am afraid of telling any family members, friends, or people who might tell them. I am, put plainly, in a pickle.
Thoughts? Advice?

Maybe what your sleeping on is too rough. Might be cutting your skin.

Try adding a lock inside your room and move any sharp objects out of your room. See if that at least prevents it. If not, try something else for the next night.

I suggest when you go to sleep you do so after a hard workout, that way there's no energy left for your body to do any physical stuff when you're asleep.
Have you ever done lots of exercise one day felt great after, then wake up the next day feeling like hell? that would work.
Bleeding you say? could you not find out in your room where the blood spatters are and work out if it's you or someone else doing the damage?

I agree with the lock idea.

It's not splatters, I mean that it's actually been bleeding from the cut when I woke up. If it was splattered around on the walls, then I'd be REALLY worried.

On a more serious note, if you suspect someone else of cutting you, only put up the camera at first. You don't want to lock the door and leave him suspect that you know what he/she's up to.

Better to catch the trespasser red-handed.

Go to the doctor and have them check your platelet level! When mine was really low once this happened too me, basically my blood was ooozing out of my veins, I woke up brused and bloody one day, nearly died. I had plenty of randomness that you are talking about the month leading up. I only needed a blood transfusion and we have to keep an eye on my levels.

check the edges of your bedframe, head/foot boards and even your boxsprings. it could be a splinter, torn/twisted bit of metal or something that your arms, legs, and hands could be brushing up against.

I used to get cuts like that for a while, then while moving, I found that my bed frame had a sliver of metal sticking out (cut my hand while folding it up.) after getting that replaced/repaired, the nightly cuts stopped appearing.

Just to let you know, though, barring the problem actually coming from your bed, someone you know will have to know of the situation. If you can verify that the problem is not coming from the bed itself, you should tell someone IRL who knows you well to determine what the problem may be, whether it's physical or even emotional. The subconscious mind can motivate some really creepy stuff.

I asked this, because in some circles, people believe that negative energy from people can be given off and cause negative paranormal activity to work against said person. Sounds crazy and all. But its technically a possibility.

Try trimming your toe/fingernails, trim them nice and short, but make sure you smooth out any sharp edges with an emery board...I give you this suggestion only because I have woken up with scratches, and scrapes, because apparently, I get itchy while asleep...If my toe nails are too long, it can get messy by morning...And I leave you with this...Confucius say, "Man who go to bed with itchy bum, wake up with smelly finger"

Dont know if I am allowed to post links, so im not gonna. But I found quite a lot of forums containing the cuts in question. None of them have given an answer as to how it happens.

Some were in paranormal forums, other in serious ones. Most were ruled off as a sharp object sticking out of the sleeping surface. No sharp objects have been found.

Apparently, it happens the most to young girls. Around age 13. But you are....?

Serious answer:

I used to get really freaked out because my boyfriend would have scratches on his body, some of them pretty nasty looking. Turns out he absent-mindedly scratches himself sometimes, even doing it in his sleep from time to time. One thing that helped him was to get some lotion to keep his skin from itching at all, and to buy some new sheets that had higher thread count to make sure they weren't irritating his skin.

Don't know if your problem is the same as his, but might be worth a shot.

I had a nieghbor once. She said she had cat scratch fever. I'm not sure if that is real or not. Ever so often she would get wounds/ slits on the bottom of her feet. She would have to soak them in warm water. So your condition has got me thinking either your a sleep-cutter, or possible allergies. Perhaps you are allergic to your sheets, fabric, or bedding. Try putting moisterizer on your skin before you go to bed; see what happens, and call me in the morning.

The only cure for that is to put on your dancing shoes.

Thoughts? Advice?

Didn't read every post, so not sure if you figured it out yet. I'd tape the inside of my door before going to bed, and lock the door. If the tape is broken in the morning, you're doing it to yourself, and you might benefit from some mild sedative to help hurry you out of the REM stages of sleeping.

Good luck

Doesn't sound likely, but it's possible you could be having seizures. Some people only have them in their sleep, and wake up with unexplained injuries, although these are usually bruises. I can tell I've had an episode when I wake up because there are bruises all over my arms, usually from grabbing at them while I seized. It's possible this could produce cuts, too.

Get help, now.

Failing that, rig up a video camera in your room to see what happens. When you wake up, watch the video (mostly fast forward until something interesting happens).

My ladyfriend has seizures in her sleep. They're linked to her monthly cycle.

I asked this, because in some circles, people believe that negative energy from people can be given off and cause negative paranormal activity to work against said person. Sounds crazy and all. But its technically a possibility.

I'd love to have the meaning of "technically" as used here explained. You know, usually the thing about paranormal crap is that it can't, technically, be explained.

That aside, I've recently woken up with my whole decolleté scratched to pieces, as if a cat had gone wild on it. I've done my fair piece of wondering, but as it never reoccured, I just let it be.

I use to have sleeping problems (no as bad as yours) and I found that getting monitored while sleeping helped. I was sleep walking around my house and smashing objects such as lamps and chairs. I went to my doctor and he set me up with a group of sleep experts. I slept in a room where they monitored me and then told me the next morning what they thought. I was precribed a sleeping agent and they said evenmtually I might just gro out of it. I did and now I no longer need meds to sleep. Good luck wioth your problem.

Normally after I've had ten pints of Lager.

Can't imagine were all those bruises / bumps / cuts come from.

And the empty pizza boxes

And the headache and nausea.

Seems to go away again tho post-paracetamol
