Depression is one option. I, however, am willing and able to laugh about people occasionally mentioning those who I may consider to be of sub-par intelligence, just as I am willing and able to laugh when I see the compliment-fishing, both subtle and un, that goes on in a thread like this one.

I should also nominate a certain someone whom I recall being favorably impressed with the intelligence of, who nevertheless does not choose to be flashy in displaying her intelligence. Hm. Shall I say... Ilie?

Knowledge and intelligence are two different things. I can think of a few posters here who seem to possess an encyclopedic knowledge of one thing or another, but that doesn't speak to intelligence or reason. Knowledge is a tool - whether one can make effective use of knowledge is the yardstick I'd apply to the definition of "smart," and that's a bit difficult to gauge online. :p

Yes, limited experience with someone can often give you a bad idea. This is especially applicable to NSG, where we discuss a comparatively small range of topics (advanced mathematics, in general, doesn't come up), and through a medium as narrow as an Internet forum.

I would say, of those that I have seen i my time here. The smartest people are.

Bottle, Ad Nihilio, Zilam, Smunkee, Nanatsu, Nobel Hobos, and Anti-social Darwinism.

Also, Dyvako, Conservative Morality, and Mad Hatter in jeans all get a mention for being witty.

To be fair I'm sure there's others who are equally intelligent, but these are just the ones I've oserved.

I really don't think intelligence is quantifiable enough to determine whether or not someone is smarter than everyone else here... Even if we did get into discussions about high mathematics and the like, there are simply way too many ways to be "smart" that can't be expressed through an internet forum. Even in real life, it's fairly impossible for me to declare a "smartest" among a group of people I know very well.



Also, Smunkee, Gravlen, Neesika, Dem, LG, Poli and Soheran. In no particular order.

I'd also like to put in a word for Cannot think of a name since I don't think anyone has mentioned him. I'm not sure that I'd call him the smartest person here (he couldn't even think of a name!) but he certainly comes across as intelligent and deserves a spot in the thread imo.

I think that's a fairly hard question to answer. I find most people who stick around tend to be pretty intelligent, with trollesque characters being the exception to the rule. However, that doesn't mean I haven't disagreed with all of you at least once. ;)

Bonus marks for anyone I've ever played iSketch or whatever it was with. That was great fun!
