Convenient place to crash into, don't you think?

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 29) - A medical helicopter practicing approaches crashed on the roof of a hospital Thursday, catching fire moments after the two people on board escaped with minor injuries, a fire official said.

The pilot and passenger were in stable condition, said Richard Breon, president and CEO of Spectrum Health.

No patients were aboard the chopper, which crashed around 11 a.m. on a helipad atop the hospital. It landed on its side and the two people got out before it caught fire, Fire Chief John VanSolkema said.

"There's not a whole lot left, but you can tell it was a helicopter," VanSolkema said.

Elizabeth Isham Cory, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Chicago, said the helicopter was practicing approaches at the time of the crash.

Patients were temporarily evacuated to other buildings on the Spectrum Health campus.

All surgeries at the hospital temporarily were canceled, but were expected to resume later Thursday, said spokesman Bruce Rossman. Patients were evacuated from several floors of the hospital, but were returned to their rooms later in the day. None was injured, Rossman said.

What other places you think would be convenient to crash into, for whatever reasons?

A very out-of-the-way nunnery, maybe, if you're into that sort of thing.

In 2001 I was working at a hospital doing security dispatch and a man crashed into my office, he was having a stroke. Crashing into the ER probably saved his life. He had help within 3 minutes of the stroke starting, so he recovered 100% except for his left leg which was broken badly.

That's one lucky stroke.

Damn, I suck with distasteful puns.

You're sick, just sick.

But I like the way your mind process information which may mean I'm just as sick.

Even more lucky, I wasn't actually at my desk when it happened.

You'd be blown out of the skies way before something like that happened. At most some small debris would nick a bit of the building's paint.

Come on people, can't you wait half a year or so?

A few years ago some dude crashed a Cessna into the White House lawn.

Yeah, but cars are low, near the ground. Difficult to detect by radar. :P I'm pretty sure they follow air-traffic a lot more closely.

notice the wings and general plane shape which suggests it is a plane.

As for GWB, well he's got it coming, silly man and i'll take every opportunity to remind folks how irritating he is. Because i'm full of food, ah a good homemade Tikka Masala. sooo filling
