Eurovision

It's a joke, right?

I couldn't sit through the entire thing, but I couldn't help but feel that many of the artists lacked vocal talent and appeared to be stuck in 1995.

So, a question for those who live in the countries that were represented in the most recent Eurovision contest: Do you feel that the performers were representitive of the music and talent in your country?

And a question in general: Who would you choose to represent your country's musical talent?

I wasn't in to see it fortunately. I gather UK came completely last and Russia won it, who did UK give 12 points to, just out interest?

Our Irish friends gave us 8, San Marino 6.

No the music does not reflect the UK.

We came join last with Germany and Poland.

Political ex Soviet block voting as usual.

Was surprised Malta didn't vote for us like they usually do.

They might not have liked the song. TBH, it was a good song, deserving more than it got but, It wasn't exactly spectacular

I did not watch it this year, as I have no TV to speak of...
Or rather, I have a TV that I can play some console games on, but no box, which is required where I live...

I have long felt that songs in the Eurovision do not represent that country, but more their current [pop/music]culture.
And the voting is instead based on "Terms of Friendliness" towards the other European countries...

Two artist´s who I feel would be a good representation of Sweden:

Eurovision is fun, but ...

Eurovision does not need two threads!

Here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=557309)'s the one that started first.

It was ok before 2002. Now all the Eastern bloc votes for each other for political reasons.

Personally, we shoulda put Muse up there (even though it woulda been a career killer).

Ukraine should of won and I want Ani Lorak's babies

not that tacky Russian tat that had ice skating and horrible singing (Denmark and France should of come joint second IMHO)

I couldn't sit through the entire thing

didn't have the lyrics on? missed the pirate song? was you sober?!

but I couldn't help but feel that many of the artists lacked vocal talent and appeared to be stuck in 1995.

yes, it wasn't anything special = UK

And a question in general: Who would you choose to represent your country's musical talent?

thats not my name! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UX0p7uAW2s) it suits the UK I guess and its stuck in my head:(

Was surprised Malta didn't vote for us like they usually do.

it was different to what we usually put forward *notes Malta's taste in music*

Eurovision does not need two threads!

yes it does, the old one is like on page 2 and so clearly we need to remind the world of its existence

Ukraine should of won

OK, I've seen you do this several times by now and I cannot stand idly by any longer. The preposition "of" is not a contraction of the auxiliary verb "have", which is usually contracted as "'ve" in this instance.

"Ukraine should have won" = "Ukraine should've won".

"Ukraine should have won" != "Ukraine should of won". "Ukraine should of won" is gibberish akin to "Ukraine should with won" or "Ukraine should by won".

I don't doubt it was intentional. Most grammatical errors are intentional because the people that make them think they're correct, mostly due to ignorance.

Did you see the French?

They were truly terrible

Actually, the French entry was musically the best one and the act was deliciously self-deprecating. Alas, such things are usually lost on the plebs like yourself that make up a majority of the population.

Also, that site only allows streaming to UK residents.

The Ting Tings are talented, catchy and witty - which is exactly why you won't find them in Eurovision. Why do we get so worked up about not winning this? It's like the booby prize of music.

Also: Sebastian Tellier is the most worthy act to have entered Eurovision that I can remember.

Am I the only one who hates this shitty unoriginal band over hyped by the NME?

I found it a bit too dull to win myself (Denmark was marginally better IMHO)

Nope, but that's not what the ESC is about.

Meh, Denmark sucked almost as much as Russia. Iceland had a lovely 90s pastiche that should've been more than 4 points ahead of Denmark.

Azerbaijan should have won. Though maybe they wouldn't have been able to provide particuarly good facilities if they hosted it, so never mind I guess. The top two seemed amongst the most boring of the lot, which is a shame, as usually a major part of the charm of the contest is that the quirky rises to the top.
