=================================

Requesting a lock. Please and thank you. :)

=================================

Our high school prom was today, and I thought they were play the usual mix of generic radio music like rap, techno, pop, etc etc.

Since I myself have been victims of countless rickrolling, I was reduced to a state of extreme fear and paranoia whenever friends sent me links. Then, I decided that if you can't beat them, join them, and thus slowly I've gained an appreciation for Rick Astley.

Anyhow, I figured the DJs at our prom would probably have never heard of rick astley, so I went home today, burnt a cd with the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" on it and gave it to a DJ. Surprisingly the chap was kind enough to actually play my request! Ever better, they had two DJs on a double turntable remixing it into a techno version!

As soon as it came on my group of friends (who are relatively savvy about the net-culture) started dancing (mainly b/c they weren't used to proms and school dances and that got them to dance! :D) and everyone else started dancing and running around in a train along with the beats. But yeah, I am content for I have rickroll'd ~600 people. :)

I had a friend film it so hopefully a video is coming soon.

What's your experience with rickrolls?

Yup. Somebody did like same thing, and damn proud of it. IIRC he got a grilling from Generalites.

Because the other person did NOT Rick Roll. They just asked the dj to play the song by Rick Astley - while the essence of Rick Rolling is the tricking of others into listening to it.

for the last time if your there it is not rickrolling.

to rickroll someone you have to not be present.
an example would be when the NY mets got rick rolled, due to a large number of online voters stuffing the ballot box.

a proper prom rickroll would be take place at another school's prom. you would have say taken advantage of an online voting system to determine the song the prom king and prom queen dance to.

This one's better than the previous one, a suicide Rick-roll.:)

Does it count as a Rick-roll when I sing the song?

I'm a Brit, and we have a radio station in London, called Capitol FM. Basically, this DJ from Capitol was talking to some of the members of a shooting club I belong to, about our views about guns, and rising gun crime and whether we had anything to do with that.

I got interviewed by this DJ, and at the end requested Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. I heard the interview the next day. The Rickroll was right after it. I rickroll'd the whole of London, and myself.

Also, with Anonymous, we found where Rick Astley lived (it's in a London suburb) and we rickroll'd him for about 3 hours.

I really don't understand what the whole rick-roll deal is. I heard that the original rick-rolls involved some scripting that made the browser-window become really small and jump around the screen or something, which I understand how that could be annoying, but why is it such a big deal when you hear some song from the 80's or what have you?

It started on 4chan (as most internet jokes do) and the "duck roll"

So imagine your going on some forum, and it's about, say, Halo something like this may happen:

"Hey! Guys! Look at this HALO 4! HERE'S THE LINK TO THE YOUTUBE TRAILER!"

Then getting that. How crushed would you feel?

Well, I don't really care about Halo 4, but let's say it was for that Tales of Symphonia sequel that's coming out... Uh.. Well, still not that bad. I don't really watch trailers and such, since I don't care for the hype. I guess that's why it didn't affect me.

But then, how does doing this in a prom or a radio station matter? It's not like you have a news-agency doing something like 'breaking news! Israeli-Palestinian conflict settled! We send you now to Bob Newscaster!' and then switching to that video-clip.

Does it strike anyone that when everyone is doing it, and it's no longer a matter of being tricked into clicking the link yourself but having people REQUEST the song, it's no longer a rickroll and it's no longer funny but just.... sad (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/Katganistan/NotARickroll.jpg)?

all that video will show is your class at a 'dance' and the DJ playing a song YOU gave him, and the people dancing to it. ESPECIALLY sad when YOUR friends had to start dancing to it to get everyone else to dance to it.

Sorry, but it's NOT a RICKROLL. just someone who liked Rick Astley's music sooo much he just had to bring a copy of it to be played at his prom.

Rick-rolling is getting really lame....Also what the OP did isn't really a Rick-roll, it just seems like requesting a song.
