Terrorists just aren't what they used to be.

With the explosion in Exeter yesterday that managed to injure only the person who is suspected or bringing along the device with him I am suspecting that the threat from terrorism in the UK is over. This is the second such attempt in the UK that was marred with incompetency - the first being the attempted attack on Glasgow airport. It's all rather like some British slapstick comedy rather than a sinister threat from radicalised Muslims. We should bring back the 'Carry On' franchise with a new film called 'Carry On Exploding' or something.

So what does the rest of NSG think?

Increased security and the fact our intelligence services (which are anything BUT incompetent in reality) are taking such threats seriously, combined with the fact that our societies are highly intolerant of such extremism, are forcing the professional terrorists to stay well out of the West. The chances of them being caught are not by any means 100%, but are high enough to be not worth the risk.

That only leaves the amateurs, who are invariably short on knowledge of bomb procedures, weapon skills, tradecraft or systemry, or any or all of the above. Amateurs succeed only with luck, which means rarely.

Had the man not been mentally handicapped and taught how to make those devices properly we'd be looking at this a whole other way but yes, in short the chances of anything like July 7th happening in the near future are slim to none and as for a 9/11 type attack, I think thats out of the question.

It would be foolish to assume that because there hasn't been any major problem for a couple of years the terrorist threat is 'over'. Terrorism can never be over, and all we can do is our best to catch them before they strike.

As the IRA used to say, we have to be successful 100% of the time - they only have to be successful once.
