Super Powers

So, I was looking at a Final Fantasy XIII trailer, and it appears that they have a character in it which (appears to be) borderline invincible. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2r3Xx4SYjo&feature=related) is the link. He appears at about 2:15.

He appears to be borderline invincible; however, he also looks depressed/bored. My question to you all is, if you had those kind of powers suddenly gifted to you, what would you do with them, and how would it affect your personality over time?

EDIT: I want the power to make people answer the question asked.

You know those daydreams, "I wish I had [power X], then I'd be able to [random world changing, mostly to impress girls] . . ."? I always end up realising that if I was omnipotent, I'd probably not really be arsed anymore to change those things that were annoying me. I'd most likely wander off to some other solar system, or galaxy, and see what was up over there. So, yeah . . .

I would likely be somewhat altruistic and somewhat selfish.

I'd settle for omnipotence if I had super powers. I doubt I'd grow bored with having the powers, but what they entail would make me grow bored eventually. I could always just make challengers appear, though.

I'd probably give myself the powers of a "god" and play mind games with people! Muahahaha!

Reading comprehension: fail.

I was thinking that an omnipotent person would eventually become very bored, followed by very depressed. After a while, I would become very depressed - after all, if you were omnipotent, people would be like ants to you.

Do you toy with ants, mentally manipulate ants, help ants, or even give a crap about ants? No. After a while, I think an omnipotent person would feel that way about humans.

I think watching Hancock would cover most people's response and outcome.

Except, being omnipotent, you can create an arch-nemesis who is your equal in intellect and so forth. Then you and the nemesis can play a cold war using humans like pawns.:D

First of all, it looks like an awesome game. I'm going to be buying it since I have some of the others.

Anyways, the ability to control people's minds is the most pleasing super power I can think of without major consequences on myself, I'm just greedy like that.

He appears invincible, but it looks like his power is a typical barrier system taking the form of blades moving at rapid speed around him. notice that the soliders near the end (before he walks up the steps) are being shot by their own bullets bouncing off the barrier just inches away from them. and the barrier looks defensive since he still had to slice and dice soldiers.

He looks bored because he's up against footsoldiers... cannon fodder.

if I had that kind of power? a Barrier/protective power? join the secret service or police. maybe the military. who knows how it will affect my personality.

the power shown is not omnipotent. just a very good barrier system.

HOW it will affect the personality of someone is different. just like giving someone a million dollars, what they do with it will be different and how it will affect their personality also different.

Do you toy with ants, mentally manipulate ants, help ants, or even give a crap about ants? No. After a while, I think an omnipotent person would feel that way about humans.some won't, some would. some would leave the ants alone, others would make an ant farm, other still will stomp on them. how people with Omnipotent powers (Which is NOT what the video shows btw) is as varied as how they interpret your questions.

Granted, however, given superpowers such as these in today's society (an effective barrier, seemingly increased speed, and teleportation), you would be a very tough customer.

So, perhaps he is not omnipotent (neither is Superman), but he's still far above the norm. So, if you had those kinds of powers, would it effect your personality? He looked quite depressed even when riding in the car or sitting on his chair - not killing random footsoldiers.

I would unite Humanity under a single banner, save the Earth from pollution and all that, encourage Science, Education, and logic, and expand Humanity to the stars. I would then fake my own death and follow Humanity's progress and if i am needed again, I would reveal myself.

And teleportation. or speed. this is a video for a FF Game after all. ;)

Granted, however, given superpowers such as these in today's society (an effective barrier, seemingly increased speed, and teleportation), you would be a very tough customer. increased speed is normal for 'named' characters in FF games. teleportation would be limited since why only those couple of steps? why not back to the top of the stairs? so I didn't consider that because of lack of evidence.

Depressed, arrogant or bored... or perhaps that's how he nomally looks. can't really assess his personatlity with that little clip.

and again, how it affects one's personality is different. I can SAY how I would be if I suddenly got 100 billion dollars. but the reality may be quite different.

Powers like that may make people power crazy, it may make them into egomaniacs, or paranoid, or even generous to a fault. who knows really.

Fair enough on named characters in FF getting super speed.

Well, he did disappear and reappear straight up, against gravity, so I would assume he teleported. Either that, or he can fly really fast. Either one would be an awesome power.

true, but I'd rather the old Materia system.

then if I don't need the barrier, I could swap it out for say... Lightning control or Healing. :p

Well I wouldn't slaughter a small army of working class schmoes in riot gear who can't lay so much as a finger on me, nor stand in my way wherever I want to go.

I'd probably work as a mercenary for hire in Somaliland as long as they agree to try to take over Somalia and sort that shit-hole out.

Same here. But I wouldn't fake my own death as I know for sure that if I did it wouldn't take too long to Humanity screw up everything.

Create a cult following (or religion based around me and whatever Gods I attribute my powers too)/organization and use it to create my own nation and expand it (doing that on my own would just be ridiculous)
I'm sure people will be more than happy to worship/fight for some one with near God like powers.

Or,
I'll just become like a super hero or something, fable style which will probably create a hero cult around me but whatever.

I'd appear simultaneously (hey, I'm omnipotent aren't I?) to all those annoying religo wackos around the world, tell them I'm God, give them a convincing display of power to prove this and then tell them I hate them and could they just shut the hell up and do something constructive with their lives rather than constantly prattling on about God and generally pissing people off.
I would then add that I'll be watching them from now on and if they don't do what I said, it's the big H (as in Hell) for them.

Later, when I was more bored, I'd create all the Greek and Viking Gods just to really mess with people's minds. "Odin demands sacrifice!"

well, if it's omnipotience... I'ld Terraform Mars. make into a life supporting planet complete with water, plants and earth animals.

then I take all the religous people, fanatic and faithful alike, litterally pluck them off the earth and plop them down on mars.

then I place a thick asteroid belt between Mars and Earth. Thick enough to prevent people from one from reaching the other.

then I go off and explore the univers while I let both planets think they got the better deal.

Interesting...very interesting. If you're gone long enough, the populations of the two planets could evolve differently right? Of course the Martians wouldn't call it evolution, they'd probably call it divine intervention or something.

I do. What's wrong with that? I don't want them walking off with my food, but I don't want to kill them either. Usually if I see them crawling about my kitchen or whatever I'll try to manoevre them onto a bit of card then throw them outside. They might not be very interesting or unique, but they're still alive, and that's something I care about.

I feel the same way about people, and I'm sure I would do given the kind of incredible power you're talking about.

If I were omnipotent...

It'd be like a never ending game of sim city/civilization! Oh the fun I could have...

I'd prolly generally try to improve things, explore the depths of the oceans, and space, see what the earth's core is really made of, and perhaps go create a universe or two of my own. Then I'd settle down and raise a family of a few million, nothing too big and retire into obscurity.

to the question at hand with those powers i would take over a 3rd world country. Always have 100 women who belong to me as a pleasure squad, then spend the rest of my days when not banging the 100 women drinking cognac and developing nuclear weapons to scare my neighbors and piss off the US.

Basically Kim Jun Il. hmmm maybe eh has super powers.
