WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, interrupted on Friday by a loud crash as he spoke to the National Rifle Association, joked that the noise was Democratic candidate Barack Obama falling off a chair as he dodged a gun aimed at him.

"That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He was getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him, and he dove for the floor," Huckabee told the NRA convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in comments that aired on CNN.

Huckabee's disgustingness aside, do any of you worry that someone will attempt to assassinate Barack Obama? Was it a factor in voting for him vs. Clinton?

Today's government would have seen a little kid that fell down and said, "Well, she's obviously never going to get back up. Cut off her legs and sell 'em on ebay."

But, yes, it is a real possibility. Obama is Black, after all, and we have wing-nuts. Really, I think there is a worry with both Clinton and Obama. They just aren't old white men.

fromt he 1940s to the 1960s the income of the black family was on the rise, after the great society kicked in along with the sexual revolution and drug experimentation brought in by white flower power, the black family and experience suffered and was set back decades.

no one side has all the answers the way i see it, but there are certain conservative ideals that the black community not only shares, but would benefit from if given a chance. i would like to see an experimentation with school vouchers for one and judging by the polls, so does a large portion of the black community.

Well apparently it was a spur of the moment thing, as opposed to my initial suspision that this was Huckabbee's way of suggesting something to his audience. Hopefully this has cost or at least hurt his chances at the Vice-Presidential slot.

Still, I have a horrible feeling that this campaign is not going to go by with out some sort of violence. From Huckabee's jokes, to a rumor I read on another forum about West Virginia preachers telling their congregations that Obama was the Anti-Christ, to Limbau's thinly veiled riot incitement, its pretty clear to me that change is not coming without conflict. The Republicans have had 8 bloody years to move America closer to a feudal theocracy, and they aren't going to stop just because the law says they have to. Remember that these are the people who quite possibly won Florida by fraud, argue about which forms of torture are legal, and don't seem to get the concept of Constitutional separation of powers. Mark my words, they will start with the smear campaign, move on to voter fraud, and, if that fails, some of them will most likely start thinking about a violent course of action.

I'm not voting for Obama or Clinton, but joking about assasination sucks.

I think any US President runs the same risk of being a target-I dont think Obama's race puts him at more risk today.

No? "He was getting up to speak, and someone aimed a rifle at him." You know, pointing guns at presidential candidates *sounds* kinda like assassination to me, particularly when doing it just as they are giving political speeches.

It's the kind of "joke" that folks at the Secret Service don't think is very funny either, and for damn good reasons. Like the plausibility of southern baptist, far-right racists assassinating a black man if he becomes POTUS.

In general, "jokes" about assassination aren't funny and they certainly don't accelerate your political career, as evidenced by Huckabee's current standing somewhere between Lew Rockwell and Reverend Phelps.
