Milk. this stuff is okay to drink I guess *shrug*

What kind do you drink? is Soy milk bad for you? do you have any milk stories to share with the group?

now I have this theory that may blow you out of the water:

The milk you grew up drinking will naturally be the norm for you and any other type of milk you drink will just be weird. Groundbreaking stuff I know but I feel this needs to be tested for truth (as nipple milk is weird) so post which milk you drink and if its the type you always use!

I drink semi-skimmed even with tea which for some odd reason makes me a freak within my community but I can still drink full because I'm English

Full fat milk for me. I refuse to drink or use that watered down skim milk, or any other form of milk for that matter, I want proper milk now!!!!

I grew up drinking standard milk, and then went on to drink skim milk, now i drink one that has extra calcium.....

the only one i hate is this one thats ultra-skim, it tastes like its 60% water, not worth buying if it has little flavour

I wish I could try 'fresh milked from the cow" with the cream still in it

Cow milk is for baby cows. I drink tons of it though.

As for funny milk stories, I once on accident shot my husband in the eye with breast milk, on accident, seriously, only I couldn't stop laughing so he thinks I did it on purpose, but it was on accident, accidentally. ;)

Yeah, 2% is good, but you know what else is good?

2% of my ass. Why have 2% of anything when you can easily have 100%?

Whole milk is fantastic. I'll take 2%, but that's as low as I'll go.

And yeah, I've never had that urge, myself. Kind of unnerving to imagine it, if you ask me.

there are some reports that suggest that soy is unhealthy something to do with isoflavones and large amounts of estrogen.

we are all somewhat lactose intolerant, especially with cows milk. most people have a limit of milk products that will upset their stomach.

Grew up drinking 1% milk and still do. I drink organic, and when I can get it I prefer to buy milk from small dairies with free-roaming cows, which is easier here in NorCal than some places.

I'm amazed at all the people who drink whole milk. Whole milk feels like drinking cream--it makes me want to puke.

Heh, and for a whole milk drinker as myself, anything less seems like water. Well, 2% still reminds me of milk...kind of.

I grew up with 3.5%, which is the norm for where I live. I went through the horror that is 1% and skimmed when I lived in the USA, but somehow I managed to survive and tell the tale, sipping a cup of good old 3.8% milk which is what I prefer now.

My flatmates buy "half milk", i.e. 1.5%, and I'm rather grossed out when I drink it by accident. But then, most of them also buy the 'durable' kind, which is extra gross.

Just a question for (what I assume) Americans.

I have read various posts in this thread and people have said 1% 1.5% 3.8% milk and what not, what I want to know is what does this mean?

Is it fat content, or some other thing?

That 'durable' kind SoWiBi mentioned is that Long life milk? I have had that before and while it is alright it is not as good as milk and a lot better than skim milk. Powdered milk is also alright but should only be used as a very last resort, i.e you need your morning tea and it is a public holiday so no stores in a 50km area is open and the neighbours are away so u can't borrow some of them and you used up the last of your milk last night because you decided to bake a cake.

What kind do you drink?Chocolate.
Milk, imo, is for use in other things, not for drinking on its own. Porridge, pudding, cake, lasagna, chocolate milk, ice-cream etc. The closest I would come to drinking it is with cereal; not that I've eaten cereal in the last, oh, ten years or so.

I'm not a US-American, I'm German. And yes, at least 'my' percentages refer to fat content. AFAIK, "natural" fat content of cow milk is around 4%, and most milk processed for human consumption is 'downgraded' from there.

I've also tried soy and oat milk, neither of which tasted remotely like milk, and both of which were disgusting to my palate.

I have a former teacher who's one of those vegetarian and no eggs people (too lazy to look it up), and I have to say, I don't get it. What's so special about egg? I asked him to explain and he said it was because eating eggs is like eating meat, since they're fertiziled. I told him they sold plenty of UNFERTILIZED eggs and he looked kind of black and mumbled something and walked off.

Eating a fertilized egg would be really gross. Munching on a little chicken embryo…

The eggs people (normal people) eat are not fertilized, they are basically a chicken's period. No rooster around, she passes the egg, we get it, we eat it.

I love milk! In order, my favorites:

2%
Whole
1% or skim

That's how it is for me, for cow. 2% is just the right viscosity for chugging large quantites of. I can go through a gallon in an afternoon when the mood strikes. I'll drink it straight, or with chocolate power, or with a flavored syrup, such as creme de menthe, malt, chocolate malt, cherry, strawberry, etc. I also like to make milk shakes and milk blended with ice and a fruit (no iced cream involved), or with banana and peanut butter.

Then, of course, there's goat. Gotta have goat every once in a while. :) Fresh goat milk from a free-browzing goat is tops.

That about covers it, unless you count horchata, which I've seen advertised as rice milk. That stuff is great, too.

you can get fertilized eggs, they wont have an embryo because refrigeration prevents growth of the embryo past cellular level.

Yeah ok I thought so, cheers. We in Australia while we have different fat percentages such as 1% 2% we usually just call it skim milk as a generic term or by the brand name of the milk, full cream milk we call it just that or as I call it proper milk.

I know that is what it is, but thinking about it in that way is gross. Trust you Smunkee to put me off eggs for a while

Talking about fertilized eggs, I remember about ten years ago, I was over a frined of my mums house and she was cracking open eggs to bake a cake, and she cracked open one, and it had a small embryo of the chick in middle of the yolk. That was enough to put me off eggs for a couple of months till I was able to think about what I saw without feeling sick
