Listen to it...

D.O.C. Formula (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-IJ9vbdNfA&).

BDP: MY Philosophy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__wcaa-LBkc).

TCQ Left My Wallet In El Segundo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpPkGZ6zhzA).

Many ppl can't even own up to it ever being poetry.. much less anything else. Can you see the artistic bit in these songs?

Left My Wallet In El Segundo

My brother and I used to riff this one back and forth, we could also do Bitties in the BK Lounge from the De La Soul is Dead album.

It is poetry, I suppose all songs are a form of poetry but some are certainly more poetic than others.

Lord I loved this album...

Bitties in the BK Lounge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxcWnY96TFw)

We really did the bit starting 2.14

Man, I'm going to spend a bit of time on Youtube now...

Never been a big fan of hip hop, very few songs appeal to me.

That being said wtf is this about.. try again and be a little more clear with the thread.

And while I'm at it spell think right...

Tribe Called Quest rocks..

Someone in my class recently asked if there was any rap .. rappers .. that was w/o curse words. I answered De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest.. Heavy D.. etc among others.. they had no clue who I was speaking of.

Dunno if it's my connection or what.. but I can't bring up my own links :/

Even though there's swearing, I have to credit Jay-Z with some of his lyrics as well, I'm trying to find the right song but in the meantime...

Public Service Announcement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uwIFn-wSJY&feature=related)

I much prefer the Dangermouse remix version, so that's what I've put up.

Ah yes, 99 Problems (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg8dYL3an9k&feature=related) - if you don't like my lyrics you can press fast forward - again with the Dangermouse remix :)

More clear now... I think I understand. Older Hip Hoppers or Rappers if you wish such as Fresh Prince and LL Cool Jay were a lot better than the very vast majority of the modern ones in my opinion, a lot less curse words in their lyrics.

But for what I linked.. what do you think of D.O.C .. that was my main question actually. I put up Tribe and Krs cause I was just hoping some folk would listen to it.. give it a chance .... that hadn't.

I think hes up there with Rakim and Kris.

I don't own any Jay Z, I know hes put out some good stuff.. but I still remember when he was dj to Jazz.

Ammm.... to be honest, I find that form slightly formulaic, the fact is that I'm not really into rap per se, though a lot of my music is crossover, but I find a lot of the mainstream-ish artists, from NAS to Ludacris and suchlike, not so much for me.

Right, neither do I, which is why I put up the Dangermouse remixes, hard to put a finger on where the difference lies in what I like but it's best explained by the fact that I like this as well

Fender Bender (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxhk-cWQbrs)

No rap but what I like lies in the similarities, I like broken melody.

Yeah, that was alright. Liked the beat.... but without the vid.. I probably would've cut it off.

Also .. rap or hip hop is about lyrics. I know ppl hear it and think the beats is repeating itself .. its bap/crap. The beat might stay the same .. but that's not the grabber or main focus ( at least for most -- not saying the beat can't be 'the thing' for some)... it's the lyrics.

That last song I linked to.. if any of you would've paid attention to what it was saying.. at least a hand full of ya would've been bitching. But ya didn't.. cause of the beat.. mainly.. so maybe it did what it was suppose to. Blind your ass.
