Guinness Will Now Really Blow Chunks
http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0508/guinness.html
Diageo says it will make an announcement tomorrow on the future of its brewing operations in Ireland including the historic Guinness brewery at St James's Gate.
It has been anticipated for some time that the company plans to consolidate its operations in Ireland into a new green-field site.
Diageo Chief Executive Paul Walsh is to fly to Dublin for a news conference at St James's Gate tomorrow morning.
He will give the results of a review of its brewing operations.
A company spokesman said there will be a significant announcement at the news conference.
It is widely anticipated that a new site in Clondalkin will be used for brewing operations, with a possible closure of plants in Dublin, Waterford, Kilkenny and Dundalk.
2,500 people are employed in total with 800 employed in Diageo's brewing operation, which also manufacturers Smithwicks, Kilkenny and Harp.
A SIPTU spokesman said they expected to be briefed tomorrow.
Pretty soon, every decent brew in the world will be purchased by Anheuser-Busch, and we'll see everything turned into the mediocrity that is Budweiser...

Take powerful vodka, I.E. everclear, add a half of some good bud and let sit until a tea effect takes place (Theres some more things to do) but in the end you'll have Green Dragon which gets you high and drunk all in a single shot :D

Ok, nowhere in that article does it says that Guinness is for sale. They are talking about closing plants. It does not change the taste of beer much if it's done over there instead of over here.
That being said, american beer is like making love in a canoe: f***ing close to water.

Yes, we'll just close down the plants where it's made, build new kettles and beer plumbing in an entirely new spot, fire the people who work at the current location, maybe hire some of them at the new site (if they're willing to relocate), and oh, by the way, the whole place is under new management, who had nothing to do with the original beer, and we're doing this to save money, and you know where that's taking us...

Those parts have to be replaced every 6 to 10 years anyways.
as for the people all the important people will relocate brewers and master brewers, it will just be the apprentices and janitors left out in the cold.
part of the reason they are doing this is when brewing beer the taste of said beer is effected by the air quality. Guinness in the last 15 years has been getting a worse and worse taste as Dublin as grown larger and the air become more polluted. same with cheese, and chocolate. It is why the best beer is brewed in secluded monasteries.

Given how many North American breweries there are, that is quite a sweeping statement. Ever try Sam Adams, Harpoon, Otter Creek, Magic Hat, Boulder, Rogue, Flying Dog, Hooker, or Great Divide?

See above. American style lager (which is produced in some variant in most regions today) is a low bitter, high carbonation beer (Budweiser). However, that isn't the only style found brewed in the states.
Yes, moving the brewery will change the taste. But given the fact that Dublin is becoming a real city with pollution, and beer is almost entirely water, the taste will likely improve if it is made farther away from the city.

The Sam Adams stuff is pretty good, but if you want my drink of choice, it's any form of decently made Rye Whisky, though my preferences lean towards Old Overholt. But, as for the Guinness move, I think that the St. James Gate Brewery should be maintained for historical and cultural purposes, while still moving the main brewing and bottling to the new site.

I've never been concerned with beer taste. I'm a vodka man. There's basically nothing they can do to mess up vodka.
And Smirnoff Ice doesn't count, because that's really just improving artificial flavored water by adding vodka. Not the vodka's fault, is it?

I don't think so. Popov is a decent, cheap vodka with a plastic bottle. Useful for situations where people might be knocking the bottle over (i.e, drinking).
There are good vodkas and bad vodkas, but it's never that much of a difference between them. Not like with Guinness and say, Budweiser. Certainly not insofar as taste goes. I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever been surprised by the taste of a vodka. No one ever goes "Damn, now that vodka is going to taste bad" either. It can't taste any worse than vodka. Unlike beer, which can and often does taste like sweaty plumber's asshole.

nobody's had bad vodka til they've tried Rachmaninov. the hangover that gives starts as soon as the vapour hits your nostrels. vodka is not supposed to give hangovers. that stuff is probably pure methanol or aldehydes or just bleached piss, i don't know. but it is evil. good vodka is clean and smooth and not chemical or cloying. the best vodkas i've tried are polish vodkas, also some good flavoured ones infused with herbs and whatnot. best flavoured commercial one i had is probably Zubrowka flavoured with bison grass. but the best by far have been home made. a friend of mine had a bottle he brought from home flavoured with like 10 different herbs. it was 85% but you wouldn't know it was that smooth and yummy. he put a bit on a table spoon and lit it and it burned for a good 15 minutes. a good measure of that makes you feel fantastic til you stand up then you realise how fucking potent it is.
This is why I drink wine.
