What makes someone come to the NSG?

or do people actually have interest in what is said here...cause sure there are some conversations that make a wee bit of sense but otherwise im confuzzled by alot of what goes down here, although im not above post whoring myself to these threads.

Oh, and should I include some meaningless poll just to make this thread seem more NSG worthy?

I mostly come here to argue with people. It's a handy place for that, since no matter what you post on this forum there will be somebody who doesn't agree (insert NUH UH here).

No you are wrong. And I come here for the laughs. It started as a bit of gaming when my work load is not so big, and now I just forget about the game.

I'm mainly here to argue and learn. In real life, I've found that people rarely have the patience or brains to figure out a common basis from which to actually get a productive debate going.

Here on NS on most issues that basis already exists, and if it doesn't the forum-framework is ideally to quickly create it without getting interrupted and sidetracked.

Also, I'm here because I can't leave. Very few people can.

ah but even the most sensable conversations somehow deterierate into crazytalk...although for that NSG is fun

I believe that insofar every thread I've been part of in NSG has had at least one irrelevant tangental argument per page.

But it's a lot easier to control, since you can keep everything neatly on a page and re-read it if you need. When I have discussions in real life, we invariably completely leave the original topic and end up somewhere else entirely (eg from Obama v Hilary to the moral foundations of libertarian thought).

It can happen here, but usually it doesn't mean that the original debate gets lost, since you can argue two different things in one and the same post.

If I'm on here, I probably should be working. And if I'm not working when I should be, it's probably because I've become tired of not being able to write anything. And so I come here where I can relax my standards (no offence like).

Libertarianism has moral foundations?
Of course it does. Namely the idea that it is wrong to force values on other people - which in real life always (literally: 100% of the time) gets you the response "but that's what government always does". And that's how it ends, because in real life it is way too hard to try and engage someone in enough thought to get over that threshold. Here on NSG, the few people who cling to mainstream political "ideology" are at least open and informed enough to make some sort of response. In real life, you get a grin and a "that's pretty radical".

Maybe I just talk to the wrong people.

Maybe I just talk to the wrong people.I was exaggerating. Libertarianism does have moral foundations. I find plenty of them highly immoral (it is, afterall an ideology based on human selfishness), but that doesn't mean that there are no moral ones.

Ummm I have some knowldge of the English language and it's rules of grammar.

If I had no knowledge of it, I would in fact not know, that not knowing is not a double negative.

So to not know means to have no knowldge, meaning that not knowing is in fact being berift of knowledge and thus is not the best kind of knowledge, unless your point is that no knowldge is the best kind of ignorance?

To be honest, I tend to like most people. Most people here are friendly; some are irritating; some I respect, but I know they don't like me. But essentially there are enough people of interest to keep me coming back.
