How much is enough?

I've since posts pop up from time to time "if you had X amount of money, how would you invest?", but I want to know how much money you would want/need before you invest.

So, how much cash would you want/need to have on hand to start investing?

Investing in what? Generally, I would like to invest in property, but I have always been brought up to buy something only when you have enough money to pay it all at once - that's how we've bought most of our properties.

i'd like at least £5k if i were to invest in the stock market, though i wouldn't right now.

for property, i'd need an absolute minimum of £100k to get started without the banks breathing down my neck too much. that's a long, long way off...

£10k for stocks, £50k for housing.

£30,000 (~$60,000) on hand is my target. That way I can ensure that I have the resources to retrain if it ever comes to that.

Stock Market I would say 5k and no margin trading.

Housing I would say 5% of your target property plus closing if need be.

$1 000 000 000 USD...on second thought I'll take that in CAD or Euros...
