January 2nd 2002 at approximately 12:30 (12 at the time), I had just watched the first Lord of the Rings and was worried that I would be all jumpy the next day at school (start of term)

This was part of the same discussion in which they covered the difference between "green flag touches" and "red flag touches" from other people; for instance, a hug from your favorite teacher is a green flag touch, but a teacher putting their hand on your private parts is a red flag touch.

In retrospect, I am very impressed at how calm and matter-of-fact my parents were as they talked to me about such things. I don't know many people who could be so chill when explaining masturbation to their preschool-aged child.

Shockingly enough ... I was almost 19. I'd had a boyfriend who completely failed to get me off. I decided after the relationship ended I was going to take things into my own hands (pun intended).

Thats actually a great attitude your parents had about that kind of thing, even now my parents still maintain that if I do it I'll go blind lol

I'm pretty sure I was like 13ish, my mom had read some stupid book and thought she should bring up the subject with me so I wouldn't feel bad if I was doing it.........to tell you the truth before that it never occurred to me as something one might do.

I probably did before that, most toddlers do, but for slightly different reasons, I don't remember doing it before then though, and I didn't really like it when I did.....chalk it up to ignorance.

That green flag touch / red flag touch is a great system. I can't remember if I ever had any conversations like that with my parents when I was younger. I remember that from a very young age my parents were very open about sex with me, and even when I was very young I knew the basic workings of intercourse and that. Masturbation and green/red flag stuff didn't come up when I was quite young, but I know that I would have been absolutely fine talking to my parents about it.
