Really? I didn't know they did that in Spain. That would have to such if you are like... 80 years old.

Yeah, we call it "jalón d'orellas". It's very fun to do, as long as you're not the person celebrating the birthday.:D

When I turned 27, my dad pulled my ears 27 times and my mom 1 more time for luck.:p So it sucks, no matter what age you are.

In America the custom is a spanking.

<edit: Hmm, I wonder why in some countries it's traditional to, at least symbolically, punish someone for having a birthday?>

Good question. I don't know the answer to that.

My fiance says that in Mexico, they do something similar to the American spanking, but they hit the head of the birthday boy or girl. They call it "piñas". Odd name, because piña means pineapple in Spanish. Go figure.

at my school we used to thump the person on the back for as many years they'd gained on their birthday.
So generally the weaker kids kept quiet about it.

In a few sports as well the person who has something to celebrate is the one who ends up buying drinks for everyone. Seems like a bit of a punishment

oh really? and then you'l tell your Spanish government and nick all my great ideas without cost and become a superpower, the same way i helped the US become a superpower!
well okay, first you get the birthday person, then they tell their superior about the beatings they receive, they sue for money off their attackers. Therefore those growing older become richer and keep control of the courts until birthday thumpings stop, then there comes a new phenomenon, the birthday cake, few Hatters know where or why this came about, presumably when cake was first invented, although how this occured is another mystery, some say the old witches of the West came together to roast another dictator but alas they had mixed in the wrong ingredients.
They involuntarily made the largest birthday cake for their king, as such they were outcast for such a heresy, by the inquisitors who had odd rings of chocolate around their mouths, so it was decreed by the pope to outlaw those who ingested the Birthday cake by thumping them on the back for as many years they had lived.
The pope shortly died after the age of 100 after being seen eating a chocolate cake with icing, he died from a broken back from over enthusiastic inquisitors or bible thumpers as they were known for thumping those over the back with their bibles.

And so the curse lives to this day, fortunately many people have forgotten this but not the witches of the West.

Unless he was lying, ASD was one of the few people actually over 45 in the over 45 poll. So, if he's not legal yet, it's because of a poor parole officer, not his age.
