Okay, kids, I took in what you said and I hunted for real pictures of women with different bodies. This is what I could scrape together. It may seem like a simple task, but it isn't easy to find full-body pictures of women facing forward! I blame those damn kids with their MySpace angles.

Again, the question: Which of these bodies do you find attractive, desirable, or aesthetically pleasing? What do you like or dislike about each body? I know the range is far from complete--what shapes would you add? I'm really interested in getting people's opinions and thoughts on this, so any criticism or comments you have are very helpful. ^_^

I try not to be too picky, but if I can see your ribcage, that's not good. Honestly, this person looks to be three days out of a concentration camp.

This C person is really beautiful. The hips really make the round, full form of the legs prominent. (I'm a legs person, what can I say? Oh, yeah, that's another argument against Ms. D.) F is beautiful too, but I hope I can get her into running or fencing so we can put some meat on her legs. I just hope she doesn't fret about her body image too much. (I must say, I think her legs are okay, but could move unfortunately in concentration camp direction.)

I'm sorry but I like to cuddle (yes I'm still a guy) and have you ever cuddled with a really skinny chick? Not that comfortable. Her ribs poke yours.

I voted for B. Shes got a perfect body without a massive chest, and shes not too fat and apparently has some nice arms and legs. Though you can't tell much from her jeans and shirt, I think shes the most preferable out of all of them.

I dunno, B looks borderline Anorexic, D is probably what she'd look like in about six months to a year.

B and C are attractive to me. I also chose F because she looked like someone I might find attractive.

However, may I suggest getting pictures with women who are all in the same pose next time? Like what you did with the first thread?

The different poses embellish/downplay certain attributes making it difficult to produce fair judgment.

The different clothes they all wear certainly add to this effect.

I find all the other women ugly. Except for A. A doesn't look bad but I don't like her proportions.

A: Well, she's not overweight, but you can clearly see that she don't bother with the gym too much. Not cool.

B: This one is great. I'd do her, but let's look at all the rest first.

C: I love the hips and waist on this one, but her breasts look a bit saggy. She could stand to lose a cup size or two.

D: Well, I like thin girls, but let's be reasonable.

E: Gross. Just... gross.

F: This is by far the hottest of the lot. Thin, but healthy-looking. Lean and fit. Nice breasts, nice hips, nice waist, nice ribs.

G: Ehhh... I'd have to see more pictures from different angles to make a decision, but based on this, I'd say that she has way too much junk in her trunk and other compartments.

H: Not bad either, but in this case I'd need to see her face to know whether she is anorexic or just very thin. Yes, there is a difference.


Anyway, I vote for F, with B as my second choice.

Yep, although like I said, it depends on her face. If she looks sickly, no thanks; however, I know women, who have a body like that no matter how much they eat, and they're gorgeous.

Point is, these pictures simply aren't running the gamut of female body range.

I prefer F and B.

C and G

Where C is more attractive in a sexy and G more in a cuteish way.

D needs to lose weight.

A is the most like my body shape. And I think she looks good :P
B looks naturally slim, so thats ok.
C looks healthy (and I can't stop staring at her boobs)
D looks like one of those bodies thats been preserved in ice/mud for thousands of years
E could lose a little weight
F is a touch too skinny
G looks alright
H is so anorexic it makes me hungry.

The only ones I can instantly exclude are D, F and H (although F is borderline and could just be a bad picture/position). Something about being able to count the ribs just doesn't work for me - there's nothing 'feminine' about a figure an 8 year old boy could have.

The two that instantly leap out - although, again, it's hard to be sure - would be A and G. Either could be swayed by a different picture/position. It's really hard to tell with such different positions, and trying to assess parts of a whole package. In reality, all other things being equal (personality, 'prettiness', nice eyes, I like them both the same, etc) it would probably come down to whichever of A and G has the nicest ass.

Wow... Those are the same three I found to look quite normal. Except for the lack of pulse part.

To me, Figure B is more pleasing to look at. The curves of the body seem to me more defined.

A and B look the nicest to me - healthily thin and proportionate.

I'll spend some time trying to find a few more photos, but it's hard to find pictures of different body types in the same position (we women are not fond of taking straight-on full-body shots!) I just finally got sick of sifting through Flickr and put these up. Anyone who has a good picture of another body shape is welcome to submit, I'd like to get a bigger range.

They really aren't, but at least they show more variety than the virtual images did. I did find the search frustrating because of the weird angles people tend to take pictures at, but I'm going to look some more.

As for me, it's A, B, C and G. I like a woman to be comfortable with who she is, but for attraction, I have to be comfortable, too. Too thin is a sign of trouble, as is too pudgy, both for different reasons. Some people live their lives in a certain shape and are perfectly healthy and happy. I have no problem with that, and in fact, a heavier woman who is at home with herself can be quite attractive. Even further, sometimes those women can get too worried about weight and wind up distorting what made them attractive (especially in the face). I figure if you're not breathing hard after a few flights of stairs or chasing down a bus, you're fine.

I think that obsessing over someone's physical form is unhealthy, and I have difficulty abiding anyone whose sole raft of compliments revolve around their lover's body. I can only imagine that most women would tire of it as well. Men, I'm not so sure (we are egotistical creatures, after all).

I'm rather fond of B, myself. C has a nice figure, but her chest is entirely too large, and A is pretty, too. I like a women who has curves, but I expect her to be within her weight range. 'Obese' is a technical term defined BMI or something other measurement, 'fat' is not. 'Fat' implies someone has more weight than you think they should have, but by his measurement he would label 75+% of the population 'fat', I feel this is unreasonable.

B-C-F for me... I don't like REALLY skinny women, or REALLY fat women, and I dislike big breasts... small-medium is best XD

From the photos it's C for me.

Just want to say that I really appreciate all the votes and responses to this thread. Examining body image (particularly the female body, because I'm female) from all different perspectives is something that's really interesting to me. I got a ton of responses I didn't expect--the men on this forum at least seem to have a much more encompassing idea of what shape and size beautiful women come in, and it doesn't really match the message the media sends, which is really interesting.

In the future I'm going to spend a lot more time putting together a more in-depth questionnaire that examines more details of physical appearance. A couple people mentioned doing a male version and I would love it if someone did! I'm not sure I could do it justice; I think it might be better done by a man (only time you'll ever hear me say that!).

I have to say, I found the responses particularly interesting because of the eight photos I presented, six were taken randomly from the internet, one was a candid of a friend of mine who is a model, and one, as some of you may have suspected, is me. :D

I don't understand it either, but most of my straight guy friends and lesbian friends just can not/will not say if a guy is good-looking! But beauty to me doesn't come in one race or gender.

Most of those women still seem especially skinny to me with E and G being the only "average female" pics. I guess I fall between those two with the exception of a cartoonishly large chest -someday a reduction (hope/pray).

A, C, and F look like a cross between anorexic models, tweakers, and plastic surgery.

I firmly believe we are not dupes of the media. I think that most people are really more sane about body image than one would think, considering all the porn out there (that, let's face it, we all watch anyway.)

Well, I don't know, but to me it doesn't seem that the general taste in women has changed that much in the last ten years. Maybe people aren't going for the whole barbie look anymore, but still, big breasts will normally get you far in places where image matters.

Probably, I express a minority preference (or lack thereof) among men.

well, you can look at picture of who was thought to be attractive back then, it should give you a pretty clear impression.

A, B, C, F and G all are quite to my liking. D is disgusting. She should eat some food.

I tend to like a curvy but fairly fit shape in a woman. Good physical fitness is always attractive (nothing super strict, as long as she's taking care of herself). Graceful curves, to me, are what kinda defines a feminine looking body.

I don't actually care about breasts that much. In fact, I would date a flat-chested if she had good hips and nice legs. (And a few other qualities, like enjoying eating like other human beings, and being curious about and interested in the world.)

Great, new pictures. I suppose it's time to revise my earlier statements. Since none of you probably remembers them, and doesn't care enough to go back to the second page to check, here is what I said:

A: Well, she's not overweight, but you can clearly see that she don't bother with the gym too much. Not cool.

C: I love the hips and waist on this one, but her breasts look a bit saggy. She could stand to lose a cup size or two.

F: This is by far the hottest of the lot. Thin, but healthy-looking. Lean and fit. Nice breasts, nice hips, nice waist, nice ribs.

G: Ehhh... I'd have to see more pictures from different angles to make a decision, but based on this, I'd say that she has way too much junk in her trunk and other compartments.

Now, let's see...

A: She has great breasts, but her hips/ass are too wide in proportion to the rest of her, and she looks thick and mushy. It's probably nothing that a good aerobics class a couple of times a week couldn't cure, but as she is now, I'm not interested.

Hmm, those pictures make A and F both look they have slightly more meat on 'em than in the first set - which, to my mind, makes A slightly less attractive and F significantly more attractive (although the latter still looks like she could stand to gain a bit of weight, although she also somehow comes across as very young in this picture, which would explain her thinness healthily). C's boobs still look disproportionate and therefore silly to me; as a straight woman, I know my opinion doesn't really count, but I think big boobs with a tiny waist always look rather goofy. :p
