NZ scientest are wanting to defrost a 500kg Squid but are having trouble finding the right way to defrost it.

So NSG, what is the hardest thing you have have defrosted?

I would have to say some steaks, I had brought 6 steaks and when the butcher packerd them he put them all together, normally I ensure they are seperate before I freeze them, but my flatmate just chucked them in the freezer all together. When I went to defrost it in the microwave the middle steaks were still frozen but the outer steaks had begun to cook, attempts seperate them did not work and so I ended up with a poor dinner.

A caveman. I found it in my backyard, and thought it would be a great friend/body guard. Hopefully, he can handle the shock of living aeons after his friend, family and culture have died off. Hopefully.

Oddly enough, a 500kg squid. But second place goes to a bag of milk.

You going to name him Jake Steel?

I wonder how many people will actually get that reference.

Milk? Surely you let it naturally defrost?

You defrost steak with a microwave?!!?! What are you thinking? You let the steak thaw, and then cook it, not use the microwave!

Can't we just skip defrosting and saute with butter and garlic?

That's how I let everything defrost. Microwaves are the tool of the devil.

How's this for a plan . . .

We leave Cuthulu frozen so he doesn't wake from his endless slumber and eat us all . . .

...or we cook him in the world's biggest deep fryer.

Not even Cthulhu can harm us if he's fried to a crispy golden brown.

It's not really endless slumber if he wakes up is it?

Hard to do without thawing him out first. It'll never cook right if you try to deep fry it while frozen. Hmm, maybe if he were deep fried in LAVA instead of oil . . .

Sure it will. I do it all the time with fries and chicken at the Caf. This is just a wee bit of a scaleup.

Well, that's largely the problem. With something that size if you try to deep fry it frozen either the inside is cooked right and the outside is charcoal or the outside is cooked right and the inside is still raw. I'm a fan of sashimi but Ika shouldn't be served raw, and something seems wrong with breaded and fried seafood that's raw on the inside. It should either be cooked or raw, not both.
