I'm guessing someone at Rockstar is ready to release that information as soon as the game comes out. Unofficially.

From what I've heard, the game has totally lived up to the hype. I'm looking forward to it.

I have played one GTA, like, once, but yay for people buying it! Buy, buy, buy so EA doesn't take over Take2 and fire my bf and all his coworkers!

Used to be a crazy gta fanboy, back when III came out. Since then, it has had 2 sequals, though expansion packs would have been a more accurate term. How is IV? Does it fix the aiming and ai flaws that plagued last gen's trio? Or is it more of the same again, including flaws?

Might get it. I used might because games this hyped tend to sell out quickly.

Read the reviews. It's mostly more of the same, but with improvements of varying sizes in every area of course. I haven't read anything about the AI (but then I haven't read every review), but the way aiming works at least has been completely revamped and works much better this time around.

Edit: And as for flaws, it seems like half the Internet is in a fit of rage right now, either because the 360 version has slightly inferior image quality, or because the PS3 version is rendered at 630p. I've also heard complaints about it being too similar to previous games in the series, that the graphics isn't as impressive as reviews are claiming, and of course that both versions, but especially the 360 version, suffers from objects and textures popping up as you drive around the city.

Well, I got my copy and I've played it for about an hour and a half. So far I'm impressed, and I'm saying that as someone who tried and failed to get into every previous game in the series. I like the characters, and the story is well told. I also haven't noticed a single popup during this session, a problem that everyone else seems to mention. Maybe I'm just lucky with my 360 DVD drive? Based on (the lack of) noise it makes, I can at least tell that it doesn't stress the DVD drive nearly as hard as Mass Effect does.

Some problems that remain from the previous games in the series is that NPCs drive like morons (an hour and a half of playing, and I saw four people run red lights and twice I was run into when waiting at red lights), and you can only save the game in your apartment, meaning you have to do whole missions, and, at least during the time I played, several missions in a row before you get a chance to save. I was planning on only playing for half an hour or so, but that plan failed because of this. The camera views available when you drive are also bad.

But I'm liking it. Too bad I've already had the whole story spoiled, but I think I'll enjoy it just the same.

I just realized that I played the game for over an hour and during this time only stole one car, ran over nobody, crashed into nothing when driving (not counting those that bumped into me) and only killed a single person, and that was because it was the mission objective.

I'll have to try to go on a rampage tomorrow, but the game doesn't exactly invite to it I think, not when your last proper save was an hour ago.

The best rampages always start when you leave the savepoint ;)

Bloody anoying Rockstar...not releasing GTA4 on the PC right away...<grumbles>

Went to the airport but this was when I had the full 6 stars after me ( all because I went on one of the shut bridges...) but couldn't find a helicopter. Drove onto the runway though as a plane came rolling towards me...

I gotta say, overrated. If GTA4 gave us one good thing, it's revealing the corruption of GameSpot.

You wait at red lights? Do you kind of sort of wish the controls had a "blinker" button, too?

I look forward to Yahtzee tearing it apart. Gamespot has been a joke for years, I refuse to go to their site or any site they host. Haven't since the Zog Cabal horseshit about 10 years ago.

mindless fun for those with low attention spans

only new ideas are the reality put into the game, and the fact that the main C is a russian, and not an italian or a retarded douchebag black guy:headbang:

sometimes games should be like shadow of the colossus, or an epic rpg of some sort, then there are people like me whom enjoy gore and humor, stuff like manhunt condemned, the cthulhu games, i guess any other rockstar game except for that tennis stuff they pulled of, but gta especially is fun because of all the feeling of freedom it gives you, i can decide personally on how to cause mayhem and destruction.

tell me in what other way would you like a game to embody the feeling of destruction, violence and well gore

it can be compared to the zombie b-movie fan base or films produced by troma or cannibal holocaust(just an example i know there is alot worse) kind of movies, most people detest them and find them abhorrent others like me find it entertaining, okay maybe it cant be compared to any of those things since gta is a mainstream hit, point is different tastes, some people like "my little pony" others like blowing stuff up, and then there are those very few whom like to blow up little ponies:D

I think GTA is meant to be a fun sandbox than an actual good or intellectual experience.
It's funny most of the time, but after a while it wears when they're covering ground they passed before except they added a few new moves and things you can do.
My flatmate got it, and i was surprised at how much detail they put into the graphics, sure there's the issue of terrain randomly popping up if you're going too fast, but i doubt that can be solved easily.
I think it's hilarious fun, but the thing to avoid is playing it for too long, it's one of those games you could play for days and still not find out everything it can do.

Metacritic rates it at 99 out of 100 after 31 reviews, where the worst score given was 90/100 (by Boomtown)

19 raters give it 100/100.

Seems like they like it...

I've been listening to all of his reviews for quite some time, and he is VERY accurate. But at the same time, he dosen't rate games completly accuratly for two reasons:

1. He's trying to be funny. Ya can't be extremly funny without losing at least a little accuracy.
2. He's LOOKING for stuff that's wrong with the game. Once again, no 100% for you.

Still, I've only disagreed with one of his reviews. The SSBB review :(

Yeah, with regards to the OP, the game is fun to play, it's as simple as that. Sure there is less structure, but sometimes that's what you're looking for.

Yes. GTA 4 is in no way whatsoever worth the 10/10 reviews it has been getting. I'd be generous to give it an 8/10. Though I did giggle inanely the first time I crashed my car at speed and flew face-first out of the window, after two hours I switched back to Mass Effect.
