Between the religion threads, the dating, sex and racist threads we´re going to take NSG to an early demise. Isn´t something else there that we can discuss that doesn´t involve sex, religion, the proverbial god and race?
Yes, yes there is.

Whatcha smell like?

right now I smell like....puke, hubby is sick :( (yes, I took a shower, and yes, I still smell it)

Usually I smell like lavender and tea tree oil.

I've recently showered, so I smell like soap, mostly. My feet smell slightly like soap, with a bit of something (possibly leather) thrown in, and my hair smells like wet hair.
Also, congratulations, you just managed to make me spend several minutes holding the bottom of my right foot up to my face. Only three other people can make that claim, and one of them got a kick in the balls for his trouble.

I take shower once a day when I'm at home, and twice a day when I have to work, and the only same piece of clothing I wear more than one day is pants. And since I don't use any stuff that smells more than a couple of minutes after I step out of the shower, I don't think I smell much of anything most of the time.

But right now, I smell a lot like pizza. Oh God, why did I have to eat it all. Why can't I control myself. :(

Smell allows you to perceive something as inedible before consuming it. For example, without a sense of smell, how would you know that dog shit tastes bad? I seriously doubt many people have tasted it.

Smell also enhances the sense of taste, thus giving more fulfillment. Certain types of food have no taste if you don't smell them, although take this with a grain of salt as I cannot mention them right now.

Smell warns you that the air you're breathing may be toxic in certain cases. Granted, not every toxin can be smelled, but not every poison can be tasted either.

Thusly, people without a sense of smell generally don't live as long because they only get a warning about bad food after eating it. Bad meat might look fine, but smelling it can reveal serious defects.

So we can detect silent things out of the range of vision without having to be touching them or licking them.

Such as food, predators, mates, diseased bodies, etc.

but potatoes are so much tougher in texture to apples, and they have a different sort of skin.
It's far easier to bite through an apple than a potatoe therefore you can taste the difference even if you hold your nose.

Try a cube of slice potatoe and a cube of sliced apple. The texture is slightly different but they taste exactly the same with no sense of smell.

that's not taste but texture.

what you do is skin both apple and potato, and cut out a small wedge of the same size from both. then taste both with your nose plugged up.

All my other points still stand. How would you know dog shit tastes bad without a sense of smell? How would you know the air around you is stuffed with sulphur?

On topic, I don't know what I smell like. I think that's a bad thing, but ack, I don't care.

JuNii is right about texture.

I wonder if y'all are confusing taste and flavour?
There will certainly be taste if you hold your nose but no flavour.

I think of taste as being attributes like salt, bitter, sweet etc which are also there (as well as texture) when you hold your nose.
Flavour is due to aromatic compounds.

to get quickly back on topic, i smell of neither of apple nor potato...faint smell of fabric conditioner is all i can pick up right now :)

But i class texture under taste because the two are inseperable for me.
and seeing as my sense of smell is really bad, i rely on texture more than what my taste buds tell me.

For example, i would not like to eat a chicken milkshake, yet a roasted chicken tastes nicer, the main thing that has changed is the texture. is that clearer?
