US prisoner sues over weight loss
Laswell claims inmates are being "starved to death"

An overweight prisoner in the United States is suing the authorities for not feeding him enough after he lost about seven stone (45kg) in jail.
Broderick Lloyd Laswell, who is awaiting trial for murder, dropped to 22 stone (140kg) after eight months inside the Arkansas prison.
He claims his vision has gone blurry while trying to exercise.
The prison says the meals average 3,000 calories a day - more than the US recommended daily intake for adults.
Laswell has filed a federal law suit complaining Benton County jail does not provide inmates with enough food.

Hungry again

According to the suit, Laswell weighed 29 stone (187kg) when he was jailed in September.
Police say he has been charged with fatally beating and stabbing a man, the Associated Press news agency reported.
"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," he wrote in his complaint.
"About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."
He then goes on to complain about the lack of physical exercise, adding: "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death."
The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals instead of cold food.

And, no doubt, a huge donut the size of a tractor inner tube.
Oh how my heart bleeds for the poor soul. To be forced into shedding all that blubber and all from just innocently beating a man to death.

*throws apple core at BBC news for making this an article*

First time I read that I thought it said 187lbs, not kg. 411lbs is pretty hefty, one wonders how he beat anyone to death. Though he's lost 103lbs so far. That's a good diet plan.

only if we were cannibals. then again i'm sure there's something about civil rights about not being eaten, i wonder if it has actually been passed as a law to not eat people?

His complaint is against Aramark, the same company that also serves food at in the cafeteria at my alma mater. The way I see, it, he doesn't have to pay for the same "food" that us students did. He has no reason to complain.

it's funny though, he hasn't been convicted of anything, yet you all talk as if he's been tried.

Also, I could see that a 411lbs man would loose some weight on prison food, however, he shouldn't be having blurred vision. If he is, then something's wrong.

RollingSquid - he's fat. There is nothing wrong with the amount of food the prison is serving. He just ate so much outside of prison that his body is used to 6 or 7 meals a day, not 3.

He needs to suck it up and deal. He's getting enough food for a normal person. Being fat does not give him an excuse for special privileges. He gets blurred vision due to not eating his 9000 calories a day.

Before he was arrested, he probably did not work out and ate more than 3 meals a day. Now he is in prison. He started to work out and eat less (i.e. eat a normal amount of food). His body isn't used to it and that's what's getting to him.

Also, he 'allegedly' committed a crime. (Assume he is guilty here) - if he is guilty, he gave up his civil rights. He now deserves whatever gets thrown at him.

I also have no sympathy for fat people.
