Problems with modern warfare

After watching another episode of Future Weapons, I realise how many weapons are digitalised. Even artillery shells have a little GPS computer to increase accuracy. Wich made me think, doesn't the modern, digital army has a HUGE weak spot? Since weapons are becoming more and more dependant on digital technology, thus electronic circuitry, isn't the modern army becoming more and more vurnerable for EMP based counter-weapons and defences? Won't that be a really big problem?

...iirc, some years ago the US Army held a wargame. US military with tech of the '90s vs US military with tech of the '60s.

The genius who was leading the '60s had high-voltage AC wires buried under the field. Guess what happened to the nice computers of the '90s tanks when they rode right over them...

It truly depends on how well shielded the ciruits are.

I think a sensible commander would employ tactics which are resilient to both EMP and traditional methods of combat (ie getting a knife between your ribs), to use too much of one will render that army open to defeat.
To OP yeah, they have a large weakness, i think it also has a psychological effect on other countries owning a high tech tank or what-have-you.
I can't wait to see laser technology being used in combat.

Target designators and rangefinders are in use since 1960's.

The US Army will turn into the Soviet Army. Or rather, let's look at it this way.

The accurised and computer aided weapons won't work well. However, remember that they are helping to increase accuracy or capabilities, not to create them in the first place.

Removed that and you effectively turn into any other military.

No i was meaning as the weapon itself, as in Laserweaponry.

Anyway, another problem wich sprung into my mind is guerilla warfare. An army like the one from US simply sucks balls in Iraq and Afghanistan, as we can see.

I wish I had a versatile paint program so I could add just the slightest tint of color on certain places. Some people can't make out the shape. *nod*
