WARNING: SPOILERS FOR MOVIE FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU. SERIOSULY, YOU SAY THAT AND I SWEAR I'M GONNA PULL OUT MY WHOOPING STICK. I'VE BEEN ACHING TO CRACK SOMEBODY, SO DON'T PUSH ME. WE CLEAR? COOL. GLAD WE GOT THAT ALL CLEARED UP. HOW'S YOUR MOM?
So, earlier today I was at the movies and I watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a film brought to you by the likes of those who brought you Knocked Up and The 40-Year Old Virgin, and I enjoyed it. It was funny, I laughed, the frequent male nudity confused but entertained me (It was just kinda "What the hell is that?"), but that's not what this thread is about. See, during the movie the main character (Peter) mentions that he's working on a Dracula-inspired rock-opera. Yes, that's right, a Dracula Rock-Opera. With Puppets. A Puppet Dracula Rock-Opera. From what little we saw, it actually looked to be pretty good, too, I'd definitely go see it if it were real (After Avenue Q you can't be surprised by puppet-related shenaningans), but that's not the weird thing I mentioned in the title (It can't be, since that's not coinciding with anything, and I specifically mentioned a coincidence). The weird bit is that I am, right now, actually reading Dracula. I don't just mean that I have the book at home, I mean I was reading it at that moment, I actually had the book with me in the theatre (Yes, I brought a book to a movie. Deal with it). So, I'm watching a singing puppet Dracula, and at the same time I'm holding Dracula. It was just weird.
Honestly, what are the odds? This is not a widely read book right now, and despite a rash of recent Vampire movies Dracula himself isn't actually filmed much now-a-days (If you mention Blade III I'm pulling out that whooping stick), but somehow I'm reading it right as they film it. It's nothing major, just a weird coincidence, but still, it made me think.
