Who's Graduating From College?

Luna Amore

Tomorrow morning, my wife and I are graduating from college, and I'm wondering who on NSG is in the same boat. Or a similar boat.

So if you're graduating: what's your degree, what are your plans?

We are both joining the Peace Corps and are scheduled to serve in Africa in September. We're still waiting on a country.

And just in case anything in this post isn't right grammar-wise; I am quite drunk. Just to stop those comments now.

25 days. I'll be graduating with a BS in English education, hoping to find a teaching position in an urban district around Boston

I'm graduating in June with a Bachelor in Economics and another in Business Management.

Not that I'll be done, in Australia really good students get the chance to add an Honours (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honours_degree#Australia) year (which is misleading, because in Britain for example it means something completely different, and much less difficult), and I'll get my Honours in Economics. Unless one of my lecturers succeeds until then to convince me to do a Masters in International Finance instead. :p

In 2 weeks, I'm graduating with a BA in Political Science, with minors in Spanish and European History. In late July I'm going to teach English in Japan for at least a year. Should be quite a time.

In a few months I'll have my bachelor of science (chemistry, immunology) and a diploma in arts (philosophy). Bit of an odd combination, reckon many. Finding a niche shouldn't be too difficult then :p

I plan to continue with my honours in science, though no doubt I'll still be around in years to come stressing over a phd.

I envy all of you. Four years of university about to be complete and it looks like I'll still be here for another year and a half to two. It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't come to hate Indiana with every fiber of my being. :(

I have some straggling credits to pick up over the summer, but barring catastrophe I'll be graduating from Carleton in November. Honours BA in History, with a minor in Economics. Grad school is on the horizon, but I think I need a year off to let my brain heal up. And, y'know, revel in the experience of being an underemployed social science graduate.

Two years complete and two more years to go for my MA (hons) in Economics and Accounting, porviding all goes to plan. My economics exam on Thursday was most likely a success and further exams in business law and accounting should go well.

I'm probably going for a Master of Accounting, so it's not likely I'll be graduating any time soon. With just my BSBA, I'd be graduating in June of 2010 all things equal.

2 years before finishing Geology, will hopefully trigger a chain of events which will result in doing a PhD but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself just yet.

I have two years before i graduate for Geology.

Quick question, have you had to experience the "joys" of mineral optics?

In what area of Art History do you want to major in? I majored in Medieval and Renaissance art. I´m also a curator.

congratulations on your peace corps thing, i wonder how that works.

10 May.

B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Winthrop University. I finish class Monday (tomorrow) and take my last final on Friday, 2 May.

Lord only knows what I'm going to do with it. To forestall the inevitable question, "why did you go into that degree programme?", the answer is that I was originally a computer science major, until the hardware diagrams went way over my head. Since they'd already made me take calculus, changing my major to math to graduate faster was the logical option.

Currently taking a bA in history, after which I intend to take an mA at a university better suited to my ability and ambitions.

A word of advice to any reading this and choosing universities or colleges; do as much research as possible on the institutions to which you have applied. I didn't, and frankly, I've sold myself so, so, so short.

Where are you doing your BA? I've heard that it's important to choose your MA campus pretty carefully (for obvious reasons, you're going to have a pretty tight relationship with your supervisor and your studies are that much more specialized), but at the undergrad level all universities are more or less the same, so long as you're motivated to learn and acheive.

I'm just finishing a history degree at Carleton, which takes a lot of flak for its unseemly pandering to the basketball team. I've had some awful professors here but some excellent ones as well--the art is in separating the wheat from the chaff, and sticking close to the profs you admire.

To an extent, I agree. However, a first from Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard etc. is not the same to the perceptions of most employers as a first from elsewhere, which is the problem.

From what I hear, most of the experience of an Ivy League education is proper socialization. You're introduced to the right circles, drink the right drinks, etc. The actual value of the education is not that much better than what you'll get elsewhere.

That said, yes, it's a secret handshake into the upper echelons of society. If that's your thing, well, more's the pity.
