We've all laughed at Putin's potential wedding with the gymnast, but it turns out, the joke will probably be on the media:
Media curbs likely after Putin divorce report (http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/04/25/media.russia.ap/index.html?iref=newssearch)

MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- Russia's lower house of parliament voted Friday to widen the definition of slander and libel and give regulators the authority to shut down media outlets found guilty of publishing such material.
...
The bill allows authorities to suspend and close down media outlets for libel and slander -- punishment that is identical to that for news media found to be promoting terrorism, extremism and racial hatred.

It also expands the definition of slander and libel to "dissemination of deliberately false information damaging individual honor and dignity."

The legislation will be considered in two more readings before heading to the upper house of parliament, where approval is likely, and then goes to President Vladimir Putin for signing.
...
There's the "chance" that it won't pass, meaning it hasn't been enacted quite yet, but as you can read, it seems likely that Putinland will become a bit less fun to live in.

well it stands to reason, that even the newspaper staff should be punished for the crimes of slander and libel/ defamation of character/ harassment, whichever takes place
But to shut them down when so many basic workers who have nothing to do with what gets published, is a true NO

just give them written warning and a nice large fine
or just fire the man in charge and replace him with a law-abiding person

You have to admit, despite being a rather evil bastard, Putin is pretty damn good looking. One of the more handsome national leaders.
...And I mean that in a totaly non-homosexual way. Definitly.
