How many of you consider yourseleves to be reclusive, stay out of the limelight, be a true introvert, etc.

Personally I consider myself in possesion of two best friends, and several casual aquaintances. I usually spend my weekends locked up nice and snug in my room (by choice of course). What about all of you charming ladies and gents? Do you prefer solitude? Are you isolated involuntarily? Explain, yourselves.

I've been spending a lot of time alone lately. My "friends" have gone off to different schools or have changed so much that I don't have fun when I'm with them. I suppose I could make new ones but I am so horribly retarded when it comes to proper social interaction that I don't even bother. I feel comfortable when I'm alone but I'm not happy or sad. I am just alone.

I've learned that I am ok with being alone. I aslo like to spend time with my friends to an extent before I need some alone time. And I like my mornings to be queit. That dose not mean mornings alone; just not filled with mindless chatter or to-do lists.

Hey, I have been through that before. Most of us go through that, its one of those things you come up against in life. I am fairly much the same way about making friends, but I decided some time ago that I will make friends in my own time and not worry about the lonelyness.

I haven't had a non-work-related conversation that lasted more than 30 seconds in about 9 years. So I think I might be a bit isolated, socially. :p

Socially isolation isn't the same as ignorance, however. I still spent many years observing and studying human behavior and thought, and consider myself pretty thoroughly human, even if the days of participating in social events are past for me.

Between work, other work, uni and a heap of volunteer stuff I do, I don't actually have a whole lot of time. Sample week:

Monday
8-4 Uni
Tuesday:
9-5 Uni
7-11 Work
Wednesday
10:30 - 8 Uni
8-11 volunteer
Thursday
Work
Friday
8-1 Uni
1-6 work
Saturday
8-6 work
Sunday
8-6 work

Luckily both works, uni and volunteer involve working with friends

Yep, I'm well towards the "loner" end of the spectrum.

There was a time in my twenties (when I considered myself an artist) when I had literally zero friends for a year or so. I'd go for a week sometimes without exchanging a single word with anyone.

I did discover that more interaction than that is good for me. Including the occasional hug.

I don't think I could even handle a pet. When I've got to be alone, it's a really compelling need. Having to allow for that rather rules my life.

I'm very very comfortable with "people" on NSG, though. It's been a bit of a revelation to me ... this kind of "company" is fine but I think it's communicating by voice which I can't take too much of.

I'm married, so between work and home I tend to spend most of my time with people, but there are still times when I need to be alone in order to recharge. I'll generally do this by spending some time by myself upstairs while my wife is watching those things on the TV that I don't like.

I enjoy time with friends, and the atmosphere of a crowded pub can be nice in moderation, but sometimes I actively seek to be alone, even if it's just for a few minutes in a toilet cubicle.

the happiest times in my life are when i'm alone and doing things i'm interested in.

they aren't the ONLY enjoyable moments in my life. i've even on occasion enjoyed the company of INTERESTING others. but MOST of the HAPPIEST times in my life, are and have been, when utterly and completely alone.

i've just never found companionship as gratifying as creating and exploring, when not being distracted from total meditative emersion in them by the presence and emotional demands of others.

I wouldn't consider myself reclusive, but yes, I am quite content to spend time in my own company. I am a sociable animal of discriminating tastes, which precludes my socialising with the people with whom I share a kitchen this year, and thus obliges me to trudge across campus to see my own friends. Which is at once a blessing and burden.

I hope you didn't take that as some kind of innuendo, it certainly wasn't intended to be.
