So what do the communists, socialists, anarchists, and labor activists types of NSG have planned for May 1st this year?

My union's planning a rally and a march on city hall to protest the illegal use of "dispatch" teachers (http://www.generalunion.org/News/68) by local boards of education.

Don't know exactly, although my party is probably going to do something which I will participate in. We put the Red Flag on our branch building usually as a sign of respect.

I will largely ignore the day as nothing really ever happens, however that doesn't mean I won't get drunk eventually beating women and children in the street as a sign of respect for the working class :)

Here in Milan there's the usual workers' unions parade. The leftmost parties usually march under their flags at Liberation's Day (April 25th), while the 1st of May is left to unions only.

I'm none of the above, however May 1 is my birthday. I really appreciate all the rallies and parades people have had for me for the past 61 years, it's been touching. Please, don't burn yourselves on the candles.

I will be voting for The Mayor of London.

1st preference) Lindsey German standing as "The Left List"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respect_%E2%80%93_The_Unity_Coalition

2nd preference) Ken Livingstone (Because Boris Johnson is worse)

Then I will be marching to celebrate international workers day most likely marching to the center of Trafalgar square with a rally there.

To be honest in Britain most of the working class action is happening on the 24th of April. Alot of the unions are going on strike as they face lower pay as the rich continue to get richer.

George Galloway has left Respect. He left last year to do his own thing.

We were a committed party fighting against war, privatisation of our health care and transportation systems, neoliberalism, racism and fascism before George was elected, after he left we are continuing this.

George Galloway was just one member of Respect who is no longer in it.

Whether you like it or not we are the most successful left of Labour party for the last fifty years. There is no party for ordinary people anymore or a party that opposes the status quo of the lib dems, lab, or tories: which is why we are standing.

Quick question: does May Day have any significance to the Ameican Aborigianal peoples? (I haven't heard of any, but that doesn't exclude the posibility. And since you're one of the prime advocates of American Aborigianal peoples here, I recon you'd know...)

Aside from that, what will you be teaching them about May Day? The European pagan festival or the US origin but ignored labor movement meaning?

Well, he was a very loved and hated figure.

Ultimately it's about politics and not personalities. We have a lot of respect amongst working class people fucked off by new labour as well as ethnic communities. But generally yes I think with GG gone we will probably seem a more respectable or serious coalition.

it is a good day to remember solidarity with all sentient life.

every day is actually.

but it IS good to have days to remind us of that.

i'll probably do the same thing i do on easter, christermass and new years, which is basically the same thing i do every day anyway.

sit here and play with the computer and run off at the keyboard on my favorite online forums.

then again, since they don't make it a day to stop running the busses where i live, i might take my camera and take a ride up in the hills to take some pictures.

i really wish we did have some kind of free concert in the park where i live on that day to celibrate it, with food booths run by the friends of labour and the children of solidarity and so on.

Not productive jobs. If you're working for someone, either they're exploiting your labour or they're not benefitting from your labour, in which case your job isn't productive.

Exploitation is not, in and of itself, a bad thing.
