Would you be ok with a woman as President?

Soviestan

Now granted, it probably won't be Hillary as she should have drop out but 2 months ago and is simply wasting everyone's time and nagging Obama. But would you be ok with a woman is general as President? Or would you worry they would be overly emotional or in some other way not do the job as effectively as men, who have made up 43 out of 43 Presidents.

Absolutely. In fact, to be honest, I'd kinda in a way prefer one, because I really like strong female leaders.

However, said person has to be someone I could support politically as well, and I can't do that for Senator Clinton.

Any woman? I don't like some women. I don't really see how I have a choice (really) as to who is elected. I don't have a problem with the idea of having a woman as commander in chief, but I would rather it be someone I agree with (same as with men).

Eh. That's a stereotype, and while there are (of course) people who will buy into that and vote down a female candidate, I'd guess they're a small number. Besides, we already have female leaders all over the place - if they were inherently bad leaders, we'd know that already. They're generally fine leaders, if we're making generalizations, beyond the few bad apples - if I generalized based on Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi, for example, then I'd never vote for a woman, but that wouldn't be fair. ;)

A woman president is OK by me, just not Hillary. If she does get nominated over Obama, I'm just going to vote for McCain.

Personally, we do not need a second "Dynasty" in modern times. We have had enough trouble with the Bushes. Bush Sr. then his son, Bush Junior, who is a lame duck president. Then we have Bill Clinton between the two Bushes, then now we have his wife running for a post-Bush Dynasty presidency?

What's next? Chelsea Clinton running? Laura Bush? Jeb Bush?

Seriously, we need new blood. Thats why I prefer either Obama or McCain over any Clintons or Bushes. Think about it- if Hillary wins this election and stays president until 2012 at least, we'll have had 24 long years of exclusive Bush + Clinton presidency dynasties. Thats almost as long as I have been alive in this world.

Obama's message of "CHANGE!" holds more truth to it when you think about it.

Anyways, back to the topic, yes, if there was any decent female leader who was running for the Presidency with better qualifications, skill, determination, agenda, and reputation than her male counterparts, I would vote for her without any problem.

Why wouldn't they? The muslim world has had a number of female presidents in it's time, including a least theocratic state (Pakistan). Europe has/has had a significant number of female presidents/prime ministers and as far as I know none of them have trouble getting taken seriously for being women.

Gender, or indeed any other personal traits such as ethnicity or sexuality, should not play a role in electoral decisions. Policies and ability to lead should.

Alecto (Ancient Greek: Ἀληκτώ, English translation: "the implacable") is one of the Erinyes in Greek mythology. According to Hesiod, she was the daughter of Gaea fertilized by the blood spilled from Uranus when Cronus castrated him. She is the sister of Tisiphone and Megaera. Alecto is the Erinys with the job of castigating the moral crimes (such as anger), especially if they are against other people. Her function is very similar to Nemesis, with the difference that the latter's function is to castigate crimes against the gods. Alecto appeared in Virgil's Aeneid, and also in Dante's Inferno as one of the three Erinyes.

To me Thatcher destroyed the argument that women in power are naturally more caring and less war mongering and hateful than men in power.

I think what makes me people better or worse leaders is not their skin, gender, or genitals but their politics and also those from the majority class will generally be more representative compared to those from a minority class.

Representative is not necessarily to be sought. I fail to see why I should want my leader to represent the views and values of the British "silent majority"; they're all disinterested, disaffected, politically apathetic Sun reading lads and ladettes.

In any case, I have never advanced the opinion that women are intrinsically different in politics to men.

I would support a female President for the same reason I would support a black, Jewish, Latino/Latina, Asian, or American Indian President - why the hell not? However, the first of a new "kind" of President, such as the first female President, would have to be pretty impressive in order to make the future election of such a President a non-issue. They would have to be solid politically and be known for being great in at least one area. That way, if someone who is female/black/etc. runs in the future, people will remember the original such President being a solid person and leader and decide that gender/race/religion is, at the very least, a surmountable issue.

John Kennedy was a solid leader. He was also great at public speaking, which is probably the number one qualification for the Presidency and the chief reason why I think Bush is a dope. The first female/black/non-white-Christian-male President doesn't have to be as great as John Kennedy, but they do need to set the bar high enough that future candidates of their "kind" are judged by their merits as John Kerry was...to the extent that anyone running against the neocon machine can be judged by their merits...

This 'argument' has always been pathetic, whether advanced by misogynists or radical feminists. In whatever manner it is destroyed, the world is better off for it.

Note, that doesn't mean that the world was better of because of Thatcher :D

I absolutely agree. The "patriarchal feminists" are only radical in a head-banging-against-a-brick-wall-in-hatred-without-thinking-or-analysising-in-a-ultra-way.

They are to the right of most feminists in my opinion.

I think that the problem electing a female president for the US is less about international policy and foreign heads of state accepting it than it is about some of the voters in the US accepting it. We are still a very sexist nation in many ways.

I would gladly vote for a qualified female candidate if I were to agree with her politics, and I would judge her using the same qualifications I would use to judge any man I vote for. But I would not vote for someone only because they were a woman just like I would not vote for someone only because they were a man.

Definately YES, but not Hillary Rodham Clinton. I used to think she was an intelligent human being with honor. During this presidential campaign I have increasingly come to realize that she doesn't make much sense. There are just too many lies, and oddities going on. At first, I thought maybe she was just getting fux0red (pardon my french) by the people around her in her campaign. Now, I honestly don't care. She should not now, or ever, become president.

I'd rather the US has a rather dimwitted president (read Bush jr), than Hillary Clinton. Intelligent in a stupid way is always beaten by sheer stupidity!

I have always UKIP was more the party of the disaffected Tory. It has been a while since I looked at their policies, but all the same, I do recall their being in favour of leaving the EU, which would thus impact upon immigration.

The BNP, yes, I quite agree, but UKIP? No.

I don't doubt that it was tough, especially since your only interaction with English-speaking people beforehand was with British tourists... We usually talk quite a bit faster than they do.

Well, maybe not the ones from Yorkshire. Haha.

Do Americans speak faster than Brits?

I've always heard that people 'round the world laughed at Americans, or maybe all English speakers, as speaking very slowly...

Yes, you Americans do speak somewhat faster and have an idiom all of your own too.

I would love to see a woman president. It's worked for other industrialized nations. They haven't destroyed anything a man is not capable of Fing up as well in the past few hundred years. Give it a go. I'll take the very best person for the job please.

That could be fun to watch. Sorry, it had to be said. And hey, with the little action Hillary gets, because lets be honest, Bill doesn´t get into that anymore (I wouldn´t), the barfing might turn her on. Hillary´s scary and she eats babies but the woman has a need to orgasm, right?:)
