Rickrolling on Fox
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,352010,00.html (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)
It's the little Web hoax that got huge.
On April 1, thousands of Internet users clicked links to what they thought would be videos of preening supermodels or cute, tumbling puppies — only to find themselves watching a painfully awkward, decades-old music video by British pop singer Rick Astley.
They'd been "rickrolled" — fooled into watching Astley's 1987 hit "Never Gonna Give You Up." Click here and you can be, too.
On April Fool's Day, anyone who clicked onto any of YouTube's "featured videos" got rickrolled. Several other sites that day also redirected their links to the video. Over 25 million people to date have clicked onto the half-dozen YouTube copies of Astley's video.

The fact that this is on the news is amusing (though I think more news-worthy than Bush Sr.'s catching of a huge-ass fish). Also amusing is the fact that they mention the hamsterdance at the bottom of the article. Only an ass-faced killjoy would spoil it by saying something...
And the url does point to an actual article, even if the hyperlink doesn't.

This reminds me of Lewis Black's "The End of the Universe" routine.

and somewhere, whoever thought of this originally is laughing their ass of.
And was the choice of video ever explained by anyone?

Though the link you see in the post itself actually points to the Fox article quoted.
Rick Astley is never going to: A) Give you up, B) Let you down, C) Run around, or D) Desert you?

Before the rickroll there was the duckroll, which was used much the same way. Why Rick Astley? I don't know. Probably because it was really bad and that made it funny/annoying, and funny/annoying things tend to stick.
And sure, someone was the first to make a rickroll, but I don't think he's laughing all that much, seeing as it's just a variation of an older meme.

Were no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do i
A full commitments what Im thinking of
You wouldnt get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how Im feeling
Gotta make you understand
* never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Weve know each other for so long
Your hearts been aching
But youre too shy to say it
Inside we both know whats been going on
We know the game and were gonna play it
And if you ask me how Im feeling
Dont tell me youre too blind to see
(* repeat)
Give you up. give you up
Give you up, give you up
Never gonna give
Never gonna give, give you up
Never gonna give
Never gonna give, five you up
I just wanna tell you how Im feeling
Gotta make you understand
(* repeat 3 times)
*sigh*

Nick Lowe had the right response to this guy:
All Men, All Men are liars their words ain’t worth no more than worn out tires.
Hey Girls, bring rusty pliers to pull this tooth, all men are liars and that’s the truth.
Do you remember Rick Astley?
He had a big fat hit that was ghastly.
He said I’m never gonna give you up or let you down.
Well I’m here to tell ya that Dick’s a clown
Though he was just a boy when he made that vow.
I’d bet it all that he knows by now.
Chorus
Among God’s creatures man must be.
The most slimy and slippery now.
There stands the naked ape in a monkey suite.
Behind a little mustache he grew, the shifty brute.
All the ones not choking on the words they ate are
Sweating on getting their stories straight.
Chorus x 2

Yeah, it was a lame attempt, but if I successfully rickrolled even one person it was worth it. :)
