OK, so maybe thats not an exact quote, but still, shot down pretty hard:
Uwe Boll likes games. Likes making movies based on games. Likes making movies based on games involving swords, castles and magic. Guy's got a track record. So Uwe Boll making the World of Warcraft movie, it just fits, right? Did for Boll. Didn't for Blizzard. Boll says:
I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights, not to you...especially not to you. Because it's such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it."
But what if it was a good movie, Uwe? Oh, right...
I'm not a big fan of Blizzard's, in my opinion, there are games far superior to Warcraft/Starcraft that got shut out because of their popularity (Total Annihilation, anybody?). But here, at least, theyre not being total dumbasses in the face of a few bucks.
Of course, if I recall, there's already a WOW movie in the works anyway.

It wouldn't if you played games and then watched the movie.
Maybe Uwe Boll will hire Jack Thompson to sue Blizzard for something.

Well...Do you really think he debased "The House of the Dead" story?

Who would willingly let that bastard make a movie on their work?
Sure, maybe Max Barry (I mean. come on! He added me as a friend on Facebook ffs!), but not a very famous game maker.

so erm, how would one go about making a world of warcraft movie? will we have to pay a full subscription fee to watch it till the end?

 why is it when I avoid such sites they become cool?
Well...Do you really think he debased "The House of the Dead" story?well, I never saw "The House of the Dead" but...
He did it for 'Alone in the Dark' and twice to 'Bloodrayne' (and AitD2 and Bloodrayne 3 are in production... NOOOOOOOOoooooooo!) :headbang:

Why would you make a World of Warcraft movie anyway? I have to admit I've never played the game, but I thought the point of an MMORPG was that you could play your own story that was different from anyone else's story. Wouldn't a WoW movie inevitably be some kind of generic disappointing sword & sorcery epic? Or is it a more linear game than I've been led to believe? Is the narrative really that compelling and not just more post-Tolkien Shannara-wannabe hackery?
Maybe you could make a movie that was some kind of clever commentary on how people play WoW and MMORPGs in general. Uwe Boll is not the person to make that movie.

I simply wouldn't watch the movie. If someone makes bad films then don't watch them and I don't see how it can affect you that much.

Why would you make a World of Warcraft movie anyway?
Because WoW has a fanatical fanbase of zombies who will snap up anything Blizzard offers them?
It looks like Blizzard does have SOME standards, though.
Wouldn't a WoW movie inevitably be some kind of generic disappointing sword & sorcery epic?
Isnt it already?
Or is it a more linear game than I've been led to believe?
Go to A, grind to level 70. Join a clan. Kill other people from different clans in combat slightly more entertaining than your average grind. Do instanced dungeons over and over to get good equipment.
Sounds fun, doesnt it?

Haha, no kidding.
Uwe Boll hate totally mystifies me.
There are two individuals who have earned the overall ire of the video-gaming community: They are synonymous with "anti-gaming".
Uwe Boll: Failed German film director/egotistical ass. Takes any video game license he can get his hands on and then proceeds to turn it into a craptastic movie adaptation. The really sad thing is that he thinks he's a better director than say...Steven Spielberg. In addition, it is theorized that he only makes these movies so that his benefactors can take advantage of a half-baked loophole in the German insurance laws...making more money with a failure than a success. The result: video games are further denigrated in the eyes of the mainstream public.
Jack Thompson: Anti-gaming activist/failed lawyer/self-righteous ass. Sees video games as the equivalent to Nazism and Terrorism COMBINED. Ignores all viewpoints contrary to his own, and may even SUE someone for disagreeing with him (Claiming libel, assault, ect.). He has even called the FBI on several of said detractors (I can't make this up). Luckily he's such a prick that he's currently in the middle of disbarrment proceedings for all his breaches of ethics.
You are now enlightened.

I actually like Jack. He's really funny to watch flail, and, from a practical standpoint, his ridiculous stance on video games makes it hard for the semi-reasonable people who don't like video games to make a coherent argument versus video games. Every time they do, Jack steps in and tries to take over, and makes the whole attempt look foolish.
Personally, I think he's working for us.
The worst movie ever? I think not....
What's that? Some new racing movie? I've never heard of it.
No...shut up...there is NO Speed Racer movie. You get me?! There is NO SPEED RACER MOVIE! Just like there's no Highlander 2!

I have an acquaintance from high school who once claimed to be working on a script for a World of Warcraft movie. This was after her bisexual phase but before her absurdly early marriage.
The worst movie ever? I think not....
the worst MOVIE? then you never saw STARSHIP (http://imdb.com/title/tt0090068/).
the worst game-baised movie? Bloodrayne II: Deliverance (http://imdb.com/title/tt0896036/) the fact that this one was a release straight to DVD could be taken as a sign that Uwe's on his way down!
Uwe Boll hate totally mystifies me.
You've managed to miss his movies then....Or hated the games they were based on....Or both...

Enlightened by someone who thinks that there is any way that a failure can be more profitable than a success? Okay.
Like I say, if you don't go and see his movies then there is no reason to care at all.

I dislike him and what he stands for: The bastardization of an artistic medium.

That's kinda like saying I shouldn't care about global warming because it's does not yet affect me.
Yes, I am comparing Uwe Boll to global warming!
And here's some info on Uwe Boll's financing: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll#Financing)

Sure, if there were a simple way to opt out of the consequences of global warming.

None of which explains why it wouldn't be better to make films that show a profit.

Purely for parody purposes, friend.

It's what I call the "Producers Effect" (Excellent play/movie BTW), only more legal.
These movies are essentially a tax shelter.

Its awesome that they flat out said "Especially not to you."
Good on you Blizzard.
Right. It's still better to make money.
and everyone who helped, will expect their cut of the money, thus you actually don't make that much.
and any money you do make also get's taxed.
however, if Uwe is using his 'films' as a tax shelter. then by failing, he's succeeding because he would be able to 'write off' the losses.

A few points here and there to Mr Boll and a couple of the actors isn't going to hurt.
and any money you do make also get's taxed.
Yeah, I get taxed too. I still prefer to earn money.
however, if Uwe is using his 'films' as a tax shelter. then by failing, he's succeeding because he would be able to 'write off' the losses.
He's not writing off anything. His investors are.
And writing off is meaningless unless you see something back. All you're doing is giving your money away to a film rather than to the tax man.

exactly. the money being "given" away is the Investor's money, not his [Uwe] he still gets paid to make the film no matter how it turns out. what he may miss out on are the royalties, but not his fees.
what the investors get back is something they can write off to reduce their taxes on the gains they get from other 'projects'.

That's true of any director.

Yes, they reduce their taxes by the amount of money they put into the film.
So $10mil into a film takes a $80mil tax bill to $70mil but you're still down $80mil. Simply giving Boll the money doesn't help you unless you get something back.
It saddens me that so few people see the true genius of Uwe Boll.
And what exactly would that be?

Anyone here who's German or knows enough about German tax laws to explain to us plebes exactly how Toilet Boll's video-game shitting scheme makes enough money to attract investors?

Boll is a con artist.
He makes the movies suck ON PURPOSE.
Then gets money when it fails.
Clever but disgusting.

Which just might be enough to put them down one tax bracket...
and should that company borrow money for that project, it can also write of those debts (I believe) for more tax breaks and credits.
this is how big companies play the tax game. a bit here, take off a bit there, it's a balancing act.

I'm pretty sure there aren't different tax brackets after a certain point. Neverthleless, it'd still be better to earn money on the film.
