Personally I don't have one, unless you want to say Neue Deutsche Härte since that is the genre that my favorite band fits into.

I'll listen to anything as long as it's half decent...so no 50 Cent or Britney Spears. Some of my favourite musical acts include:

Lupe Fiasco
Gnarls Barkley
The Who
Manic Street Preachers
The Prodigy
Oasis
Fort Minor
Muse
Lightspeed Champion
Queen
Weezer

A bit of a mix there.

Well, could you be just a bit more specific? There are many kinds of "Pop". Though I'm almost positive you're talking about the likes of ABBA and such, you know, Pop in that sense.

As for me, I can't really say I've got a favorite genre... I just like music so much as a whole that nothing actually stands out, though I will say that I won't listen to something that wasn't written with integrity. Radio pap, or "Vehicle Pop", as I like to call it.

He's got some completely electronic (well, almost completely --- there's still guitar, but it's in the background) stuff on Body of Song, his album from 2005, but you have to get the deluxe two-disc set for it. His songwriting techniques go perfectly with synth.

I doubt it'll do much good, but try searching for the song Castor and Pollux, which is from Body of Song.

Weird Al's "Do I Freak You Out?". Can't get anymore romantic then that. :)

There are better romantic songs.

Since I still appreciate you,
Let's find love while we may.
Because I know I'll hate you
When you are old and grey.

So say you love me here and now,
I'll make the most of that.
Say you love and trust me,
For I know you'll disgust me
When you're old and getting fat.

An awful debility,
A lessened utility,
A loss of mobility
Is a strong possibility.
In all probability
I'll lose my virility
And you your fertility
And desirability.
And this liability
Of total sterility
Will lead to hostility
And a sense of futility.
So let's act with agility
While we still have facility,
For we'll soon reach senility
And lose the ability.

Your teeth will start to go, dear,
Your waist will start to spread.
In twenty years or so, dear,
I'll wish that you were dead.

I'll never love you then at all
The way I do today.
So please remember,
When I leave in December,
I told you so in May.

Edit: When I said "Romantic", I meant the post-Classical genre.

Folk.
One type of song that has come into increasing prominence in recent months is the folk-song of protest. You have to admire people who sing these songs. It takes a certain amount of courage to get up in a coffee-house or a college auditorium and come out in favor of the things that everybody else in the audience is against like peace and justice and brotherhood and so on. The nicest thing about a protest song is that it makes you feel so good. I have a song here which I realise should be accompanied on a folk instrument in which category the piano does not alas qualify so imagine if you will that I am playing an 88 string guitar.

We are the Folk Song Army.
Everyone of us cares.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.

There are innocuous folk songs.
Yeah, but we regard 'em with scorn.
The folks who sing 'em have no social conscience.
Why they don't even care if Jimmy Crack Corn.

If you feel dissatisfaction,
Strum your frustrations away.
Some people may prefer action,
But give me a folk song any old day.

The tune don't have to be clever,
And it don't matter if you put a coupla extra syllables into a line.
It sounds more ethnic if it ain't good English,
And it don't even gotta rhyme--excuse me--rhyne.

Remember the war against Franco?
That's the kind where each of us belongs.
Though he may have won all the battles,
We had all the good songs.

So join in the Folk Song Army,
Guitars are the weapons we bring
To the fight against poverty, war, and injustice.
Ready! Aim! Sing! :)

Since I make music I can't be too picky about the genre (my work would be a constrained, of the shelf copy of its peers in the genre) but I absolutely hate dead-note vocals, excessive use of bad synthesizer and anything made up of a (good or bad) single riff or lots of variations of the same (good or bad) riff.

I am also rock oriented when I choose my tunes.

Favorite genres would be NWOBHM, any Heavy Metal in general with spirit and melody in it, good pop, Jazz for dummies, progressive rock.

Favorite bands and musicians are (first and foremost) Megadeth, (in no particular order) Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Pink!, Supertramp, Rush, Spastic Ink, Death, Overkill, Annihilator, Judas Priest, Da Vinci's Notebook, Weird Al Yankovic, Abba, Heart, Dio, Merciful Fate, Yngwie Malmsteen, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Queensryche, Sanctuary, Karakedi (http://www.myspace.com/karakediband), Nevermore, Halford, Udo, Garbage, Maroon 5, Fairground Attraction, Black Label Society, Motley Crue, Kiss, Wasp, Cinderella, Poison, Skid Row, Rob Zombie, Porcupine Tree, Savatage, The Tea Party, of course, my band Magick (http://www.myspace.com/magicktr) and some others I can't recall at the moment.

'Post-metal', 'post-rock', 'math-rock', metallic hardcore (metalcore...though I differentiate between the two: the former is actually good (Botch, Converge, etc), the latter is commercial and unimaginative (Avenged Sevenfold et al), punk, some ska, electronica...

I tend to look for a nice balance between heavy and melodic, or else melodic and danceable.

Er... What? Was that comment directed at me and RynoD, or me and Fass? But why even bother anyway?Nerds in general. Not excluding myself, as clearly evident from past posts. :p
Actually - the white text was dedicated to you and Fass.

Good music is good music, regardless of what platform or medium it came from.Agreed wholeheartedly. *bows*

Fass may or may not take issue with that. I'm indifferent, as I'm not attracted to dudes, so us getting a room would probably be done to make the bill easier. Actually, that doesn't sound too bad. Cheap hotel bills FTW.

Also agreed, though it always sounds best on vinyl.

I listen to modern rock and metal. That's about it.

If you get down to specifics, I guess my favorite genre is melodic hardcore.

Good stuff. I like Strong Island Sound, which is sometimes in that category and sometimes not... there are too many music genres maybe. :-/

BRITpop and everything distinctly British.

Hard to tell from your name. :P

You appeared to have a good humming theme there. Seemed like the next logical step. :p

Also agreed, though it always sounds best on vinyl.I've always wondered if it was really worth it to get some of my industrial stuff through a vinyl medium. Not sure about it.

Oh, pfff.

You should. The bass response on vinyl is fantastic, and it'll blow you away. Even with a cheap, basic system, it's leagues beyond CD.

I think it would help more if i had *any* sound system that i'd be salivating to use on a regular basis.

While I do like some songs from multiple genres, my favorites tend to be metal and hard rock.

My current favorite bands would probably be:

Type O Negative (if I can manage to get a ticket, I'm going to see them in May when they're in Atlanta)
Fear Factory
Lordi
Manowar (been listening a lot to them recently)
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Alice Cooper
Led Zeppelin

plus some others I'm probably forgetting. :)
